how I study:

I usually set up an excel spreadsheet and go through the syllabus writing the answers etc to everything that you are meant to learn, it works for me, I got 4 1sts(Math 2u, Math 3u, Physics, Biology), 2 2nds(SDD, Chemistry) and a 6th (advance english) in the half-yearlies

4 legal i just did mine today and i suggest (especially if u r doing an independant exam like me) learn abt power and authority btw wat is the difference between them i made up some crap abt how u need authoriry to have power.

ALSO WAT HAPPENS IF U DONT STRUCTURE A STRUCTRED EXT RESPONSE...i 4git to separate it into A) B) and C) will i lose lots of marks?

I haven't studied yet. I need to learn how to. This is disturbing because it is the end of year 11 and I still can't study. It's also good in a way, though, because I'm doing well in a few subjects regardless, so imagine how I'd do if I studied.

umm i don't do any of the subs that you do.. but i'll try to help anyways =D i don't think my "study" methods are really that great but meh.. here it goes:

1) study at state library. it helps heaps. i get easily distracted at home in any room i study in. if i study in my room i end up on msn or on boredofstudies.org on my bed with my electric blanket on and eventually i fall asleep. state lib helps heaps. it's quiet and it gets you focused.

2) make a small study group. bring a few friends with you when you go studying to study together n help each other out. not too many, not too little. too many people will obviously cause distractions n you'll end up talking n socialising most of the time as well as disturbing others.

3) write good, solid notes n summaries of your own. i usually write with abbreviated words to shorten sentences up. it sounds like a bad habit but it helps heaps when you're trying to make your summary notes as summarised as possible. and as long as you can understand what you're writing of course.

4) for maths.. all you need is heaps n heaps of practice. i suck at maths -its my worst subject. i've only finished writing my notes for my yearly 2u maths exam today. haven't started writing notes for 3u maths -i'll fail it anyways so theres no point :p but yeah, my point is, practicing helps heaps, practicing heaps of Qs.. but since you're dropping maths next yr.. i guess it won't matter as much.. meh..

as for your other subjects.. well.. err.. lol can't help you much there.. sorry.. i don't do any of those but i guess just making notes on them helps heaps.. try to turn whatever you're learning into a story / movie / song / acronym... i always remember stuff better that way..

anyways.. i hope this helps. good luckk with your exams n all ^_^
[shit.. this post is longg]

my study technique involves first deciding that my room is not fit for studying in until I clean it. two hours later, after cleaning, vacuuming, and catching a bit of tv, I decide I need a drink of water. I go downstairs to my fridge, pour myself a glass of water, and on the way back notice I have new emails. I check my emails, reply to them, and then have a look at my website. once I'm done replying to posts there and being generally administrative, I have dinner whilst chatting on msn. I finish dinner, and continue chatting on msn until about an hour later, and then I go to bed.

oh and i forgot to mention something. make sure you understand what you read n write in your summary notes =D or else it gets kinda pointless.

Hmm. I guess I can give some advice, actually:

Don't study for maths. Not unless it's geometry, and even then you should also do the following: Practice. Do every possible exercise you can find.

Making a crib sheet isn't going to help you. You can't take a crib sheet into the exam, and even if you could, you'd still do badly, if you relied on it. Sure, making a small formula sheet just to reinforce things a bit can't hurt, but don't think that's all you need. Studying in the way you do for physics or chem just doesn't work for maths. Practice.

Belly Moo made this point, then went on to finishing study notes for maths. o_O
