Yes the 22nd is Academic Orientation for first year students

I believe 27th is O-week, or Orientation week for the rest of the Macquarie students :)

Are you a First Year student?

Yes: Academic Orientations will be taking place during the week prior to semester starting 22nd-24th.

No: Orientation Week (O-Week) will commence the first week of semester.

My Orientation day is the 23rd.. What's the difference between this and the orientation week on the 27th? Can I go to both?

Your academic orientation on the 23rd is the one you book. This is pretty much your first proper welcome and introduction to the universities services and facilities, you'll meet other newbies, get a guided tour of the uni, get some free food and other cool stuff.

O-week is just the first week back at uni. Since the realisation that our massive three month holiday is over is so damn depressing, we pretty much have a big week long party to make ourselves feel better. There's music and club/society marquees and drinking etc. So yeah, you will end up going to both.

Well during first year academic orientation, you go to sessions on certain issues and areas of university based generally on what you have chosen to learn about online. For example you could have chosen to go to the 'library meeting' in which case you will be given a tour around the library and told about its facilities and how it works. OR another example is if you are a Law student you may have chosen to go to the 'MULS' or Law society meeting.

From the 22nd-24th Feb there are several 'group sessions', each having a limited amount of space for students. Since you are on the 23rd, you must have already some times for sessions that you want. If you go on a separate day, it may be already full. But then again, I don't know if one can go to a different session regardless of not being booked for it. I don't know if they have a roll. But judging from what I know you should go on the 23rd. But if anyone has more information on this please clarify! :)

I hope I helped somehow :)

I couldn't make the orientation days for business and economics because i was working. I ended up having to settle for one on Saturday 25th February but it said it was for mature age and jubilee students. I thought this was fine as I am a mature age student but i have the feeling it will be full of people from all faculties. Would this make a difference?
