Ahhhh it is all a big load of crap designed to make impressionable teenagers stressed to the point of throwing up! All employers care about is if you actually stuck through it, not if you went heaps good or crap and if u get a crap uai u can always go as a mature aged student anyway...

Whoa, so many people being mean to TAFE...

Like sarsh said, I think a lot of you are over-generalising TAFE and its students. Believe it or not, there are people in TAFE who want to succeed in life... they just weren't lucky enough to get the UAI's they needed, and they want to do better.

For my part, I believe that TAFE is a really good alternative to uni. I don't think it really matters anyway... whether you go to TAFE or uni or a private college. What matter is what's driving you to be there and to succeed.

So stop bagging TAFE out already.

i want to get 99 so that i'll have an easier time getting into the course i want to do at anu, but i don't really care about the hsc at all. am i just full of contradictions? it's a bit complicated: the prospect of locking myself up in a room and studying for hours makes me feel sick, as does the thought that other people are doing it. i'm sure one can get a pretty good score without doing that. i think it's just a matter of feeling well, feeling relaxed, thinking clearly and much, knowing most of the information you're meant to have learned, and, since the exams are only a few hours long, it seems also to be a matter of luck.

uni does not equal to successful life! ffs once you get a high nice uai its an even longer road to do a hard course, finish it with flying colours then do a mentally demanding job, if and only IF you get a nice job then you have to climb up the corporate ladder to get a decent job, you need lots of motivation to last that out

i think ive told you guys the story before, essentially my entire generation is 'forced' to go to uni, sure they go well but my cousin didnt go to uni he went to tafe and did plumbing, his parents went anal at him, 4 years later now he earns $130k owning a plumbing business with 2 of his mates

Theres no big difference between Uni and TAFE and Private collage .. it all depends on the person

The only advantage of going to Uni is the contacts u build up ... eventually the social class of the working world will look up to u because uve reached that higher level of learning. Thats the only reason why poeple regard Uni as being better then anyother Tertiary institute.

if u go to tafe, most of de courses der are similar to the uni anyway.....if u do that for a year, u can change over 2 uni and nail everyone else in de tests n assessments!...and u can do MORE...if u ace tafe u can do combined degrees, but with UAI u gotta work ur ass off 2 get it...and besides some ppl who even make it, drop out cos they've been spoon fed all der lives.....with de hsc give it ur best shot that way when u leave skool u wont have any regrets...it jus means its not for u...its bullshit...doing 6 subjects @ de same time which sum u dont even need

At the end of the day, it all comes down to image and respect...i mean, if u got to uni its a good impression to everyone around you.....they fink ur unique cos u pay 20k for the sake of going there....most ppl who even finish their degrees have difficulty finding a job...i know one guy who did a bachelar of psychology and he is working @ maccas!!......lol...if u watch de simpsons carefully, apu says he did computer science n he works at a super market......and get this, one day i brought a computer mag @ 7-11 and a indian shop-attandent commented that he did programming n computer software @ uni....n he works at fuken 7-11!!!.....uni is not always the answer, sure it gives a good image but at the end of the day u only go if ur ready to tackle other things in life...that includes finding a good job or having ur own business......so choose carefully ppls before spending ur 20k a year!! :D

My borther has this same attitude. Its not a bad attitude to have, becuase the HSC is not the mean to an end that everyone thinks it is. I know a lot of people that have become more successful not going to uni than people who have. Uni just gives you an education, its how you use that education which gets you a job.

The HSC doesent prove how smart you are, so just becuase you do bad does not mean you are dumb.
yep yep dats it!!.. u go girl! :p

true the hsc isnt the be all and end all. but you have to ask yourself why you dont care about the hsc. Is it because you've got plans for tafe/work etc? Or is it because you just gave up?

i mean if you've got the attitude to always quit at everything you start.. you'll get nowhere in life. whether its with education, or work or whatever.

So yeh i'd still give the hsc a reasonable attempt even if i've got plans to go to tafe or something. At least that way, you can look back and say "hey, i can be proud of myself for at least trying". I mean you've gotten this far, why not just finish off what you've started. I'd be a happier person getting a mark of 50 in the hsc and trying to some degree, rather than getting 50 through doing nothing.

one of my friends who flunked the hsc is doing it again this year, not because he wants to get into uni desperately or whatever. But he knows that he didnt put in the effort and achieved the results that he could have got.

xactly...if u stuff it up do it agian..its not big deal...look at ur mistakes...wat u did wrong...how u did it...wat u didnt study...its only 1 year....better then goin thru life when ur older finking u should of done it......and u gotta fink, if u wanna get ur targert uai u gotta take into consideration what u need...the momentum of it...its like throughing a ball...u need alot of ur strength to make it fly over a long distance....same with de hsc....if u study n do as much as u can ur output will be just like de ball flyin.
n tafe isnt dat bad...if u go there and then go to uni it'd even be better...cos u gotta a degree and diploma...

hah ... sweeping generalisations you made. you say that chicks from tafe are "skanks", and from your hint of sarcasm "best of luck to them" its kind of ironic that you can criticise them when you havent looked at yourself properly. i mean, you say that your not stress that you wont get into uni and ull go into uni as a mature age student of 21, but how about the time between. the tafe students try really hard during that time between and alot of them get themselves into uni with credibility. plus uni does not guarantee that you are a success. the uai of subjects are determined because of their demand. which doesnt necessarily means its better and its better paying in future. look at the 2005 uai good universities guide.
some people, like you from what i hear sound like rich snobby north shore kids that can pay their way into uni. However, for others they have to stress about there future prospects.
labelling chicks that go to tafe as "skanks" arent very nice. your other sweeping generalisation for there "alternative approach instead of year 9", again is statistics pulled from your ass.
there are many renowned people that didnt even finish high school and dropped out in year 10. maybe for you tafe is too "low" for your standards, but if you actually researched your shit, you would know the different with tafe and uni is that they take a more pratical approach to study. then again, i shouldn't justify tafe to you, since your pockets must be overflowing with money with your kinda attitude.

holy hell ease up.

sweeping generalisations ey? and classing me as a north shore type, with "pockets must be overflowing with money with your kinda attitude", thats not even the slightest bit of a misguided prejudgement is it?

don't even know why im bothering replying to this because, obviously your heart seems set on thinking i am the demon of tafe's floundering reputation. but what evs, im going to do it anyway coz im bored.

im not worried about the hsc because:
a) i did shitloads of work all year, worked my hands off.
b) im a gym junkie, who gets an overload of stress relief from good vibes from just feeling damn good that i am a healthy little freak.

not because i can pay my way into uni. i reckon i'll be lucky to not pass my hecs debt onto my children when i die.

me, north shore? ah, no. unless you count the north shore as being the mid north coast, and to be more precise, a town called forster with about 15000 people in it, and 65% of whom are retirees.
being a town of geriatrics, there aren't too many high paying occupations, unless you are a doctor. which, haha, my parents most certainly are not.
money flowing out of my pockets because of my attitude? did you "pull that statistic out of your arse"? pfft. im opinionated about being stoked to not have to worry about the hsc therefore i must be rich. man, i didn't realise the blatantly obvious connection, better quieten down before someone thinks i own a mercedes.

but yes, ok i was making generalisations in saying the tafe population of forster are skanky. i totally get behind any of my friends who do tafe to further their careers, and lots of them do it. i was just letting it be known that not all tafe students are as committed to their alternative study, as i know for a fact that the skanks i was referring to are only there coz "like, soooo many hot guys do the construction course on the same day, and like, you get smokos! soooo much better than finishing year 9 at school, like, who even goes there?"

so if i hit a nerve that makes you spontaneously combust into violent verbal diarhoea, i really must apolgise. woo tafe. woo school. woo uni. woo whatever, to me being successful is being happy, and i think im already there.

relax dude. or maybe thats my problem. im just too laidback for my own good.

peace xx

I bet you'd care a whole lot more if you were getting good marks. This is what it ultimately comes down to. People start getting shit marks, and pass it off as them "not caring" yet, if you guys were continually hitting 17/20 for english, I think you'd be singing a different tune.

Seems only deadshits don't care.

Well im gettin the best marks i have been gettin for years and yet i still dont care.. if you really want a good UAI then go for it but dont get shirty with us ppl who actually DONT give a crap... im gettin the 17/20 marks in english but its not going to change my outcome at the end of the year... dont browse forums that you dont actually need to be reading...

i too...have absolutely no interest in my results from the HSC. and to all those who say that those who dont care have been the ones getting shitty marks all year or wateva..BLOW IT OUT YOUR ARSE! we are also the ones who actually HAVE A LIFE!

mind you..no offence to those who are naturally smart, and know how to party their arses off all weekend but can study with a hangover, because i do have friends who have studied, but also know how to socialise..a term alot of others would know off my heart from reading about it in a dictionary, not from experience:Dcheers
