will take you 6 months to complete all the steps before you start earning money in the reserves. minimum
Yep. But even after 6 months I'd still rather roll around in the dirt in camo picking up chicks than toil over a steamy, sweaty and shitty grease-bucket for minimum wage at McDonald's.

EDIT: You still get paid (tax free) while in training, just not as much.

i'll love to see you follow through and complete the whole training. i assume you haven't enlisted yet. maybe i will see you at the barracks one day.

it is actually 110 for 8hrs work. and your theory with camo and chicks, not going to happen. nonetheless, it is always good to be in the reserve.

who is your recruit officer? see if i know.

Supposing you have some useful contacts, have you tried using them? Use what you can. Prominent social figures (the director of education within a religious group would be a good idea, if you want to work for a company within that particular group).

My first job was a sales position (thanks to contacts) with a company that no one wanted to work for. The boss in fact was notorious for being a real bastard and he was for about four quarters of the time. Admin/clerical/sales experience etcetera. I've rang so many angry customers because our stock levels on the computers were tragically incorrect.

So yeah, I left that company after a reasonable amount of time. Last place I got turned down at she came up with "I'm looking for someone with retail experience." Great way to fob a chap off. Maybe I'm just arrogant because retail takes about a minute of training. They always say that they'll call you, but they don't. Call them the day after the interview. Pretend to be enthuisiastic without being genuinely annoying.

Also, you may consider manipulating the person interviewing you. They are human after all! It is variable of course. I won't be able to manipulate males very effectively, but I may increase my chance of picking up a job substantially if my interviewer is female (because I'm a real tool - but it's too situational). If she's Hitlerish then it'll probably screw me over. (Did the chick that didn't articulate correctly have sex appeal? - Damn those male employers!)

P.s. Don't do group interviews. I see my competition and I usually have too much empathy for them. It's almost as if I want them to win. (A chick won that time too).

The thing that really hampers me when I go to an interview is that I really dislike "blowing my own trumpet." I could tell them about my higher than average IQ and about my personal achievements in the world of literature, but is that really relevant to the job? Last I checked they wanted mindless automatons. And perhaps that's why all the so-called losers have jobs. Perhaps because they do what they're told whilst maintaining an almost tangible aura of peonship about them.

I've ranted on too long. Sooner or later we'll have to go through agencies to find decent jobs (Regrettably they'll charge a princely sum for their survices).

Thanks, I guess. But I'm now thinking about going full time. Uni isn't for me and I don't want to end up with a degree in a screwed up job market.

The camo and chicks thing was an exaggeration, lol. Yeah wasn't too sure about the pay either.

Lord Hawthorn, I don't really have contacts tbh.

Yeah man I don't get that. Retail isn't rocket science I can't understand why they require all these people with retail experience. Can't find a job without experience, can't get experience without a job. The workforce is aging and there are a lot of eager youth who can't get experience (which is becoming increasingly neccessary) and companies are refusing to adapt to Generation Y.

Also, you may consider manipulating the person interviewing you. They are human after all! It is variable of course. I won't be able to manipulate males very effectively, but I may increase my chance of picking up a job substantially if my interviewer is female (because I'm a real tool - but it's too situational). Manipulation is too high up the social ladder for me. Not sure about the chick with poor articulation, but she probably did have sex appeal.

The thing that really hampers me when I go to an interview is that I really dislike "blowing my own trumpet." I could tell them about my higher than average IQ and about my personal achievements in the world of literature, but is that really relevant to the job? I agree 100%.

Thanks for your help mate.

Seriously. I have sent at least 50+ applications in. What the fuck am I doing wrong? I have gotten 3 actual interviews and 2 impromptu ones and I still haven't gotten a part time or casual job at all.

I am far smarter than half the lazy retards working at McDonald's and on both my applications I failed their interviews. I was confident, delivered good answers, made them laugh etc. I bet some young 15yo with a slick haircut and a small penis got them.

Is anyone having trouble finding a job?
maybe it's your own fault? from reading your resume they know that you are educated and can read a book, but they don't know if you can communicate and socialise with other people. they don't conduct IQ tests during an interview for a reason - because they're more interested in how well you answer the questions and talk in general.

may I ask what type of jokes did you make that made the interviewer laugh? was it WOW or computer jokes? also note that some managers can be racist.

You go to Myer main website.

Google it.

Oh and for those TAFE/UNI students who couldn't find a decent job because of employers hiring young brainless people for cheap labour, do this: Don't mention you're a full time student or even a student, keep that quiet or pretend you're unemployed, then after they hire you, you sort out the hours you're available for, it's that simple and many people do that, think smart.

I cant find a job either! :(

Mind you, I have a job, but i need another one! I took a gap yr so that I could work and get youth allowance. Ive worked at Big W for over 3 yrs,but its only casual, so its no where near enough to get the 18 grand (or whatever it is these days!) for youth allowance. A full time job would be awesome, but no one seems to want to hire someone full time if they are just going to go off to uni next yr, so im looking for another casual/part time job.

I did have another job, but they had to 'let me go' because it was this tiny family owned shop with like 3 employees and business wasnt going well so they couldnt afford to pay me anymore.

So now im stuff doing 10-15 hrs at Big W, and cant get a job, but not because no one will hire me, but because no one seems to want to hire anyone!

Look for contract work. A 3 or 6 month contract would probably suit, as they don't mind if you're going to uni next year.

What sort of contract work could I get? Doesnt it all require you to have sone sort of qualifications or experience? Like working in an office or something?

Alot of offices and places that use secretaries get a contract worker if someone goes on mat leave or long service leave or something. Perhaps find an agency?

ive been applying to dicksmith for the past year and i havnt gotten single interview,,, gets me wondering if tandy/dicksmith are even interested in filling up the job postion they constantly have advertised on their website every couple of weeks.. mind you,, ive seen this same job advertised for the past 4 months.. ive applied all 4 times and i keep getting that email stating that they had a highly competitive field of applicants.... pshh yea right!

anyone worked at dicksmith have any tips on how to get myself an interview?? cos i seriously would like my casual work to be a more fun and interesting job than flipping burgers for some clown...

Ive applied for dick smith/tandy too, and nothing!

Atm im deciding whether to take a second job at a maccas which is really far from where I live. Im either going to spend all my pay on petrol or spend 1.5 hours each way on public transport just to get there.

But im really desperate and cant find anything closer (or that isnt maccas...lol)!

Anyone know how long maccas shifts are? Im not travelling that far for a 3 hour shift, but maybe if they are like 6 hours plus...
