You didn't read the article did you?
"We have never been to a rally before..."
So? A Christian who just converted to Christianity two weeks ago is still a Christian, are they not?

Calculon, it would be great if you could just step back and actually consider the issue and its complexities for a change, rather than just spew forth comments based on the overly simplistic left vs right framework.

You don't become a hippie overnight. Your personality is developed via a long-term socialisation process.

That might be easier if those who I'm arguing with would stop implying that I have no social life.

Which finally manifests itself in the attendance of a rally, at which point the process is complete and you're a full blown lefty.

People keep using VSU as a reason for everyones social life ending. It is possible to have a social life outside of uni.

socialisation never finishes

But I'll forgive you.
Sorry we can't all spend 16 hours a day wanking over the manifesto.

You are an engineering student (whose minds are so simple, they elect candidates who have no policy, except 'more beer')....
Its sad that vocational degrees don't give students a critical eye....
I suppose you're right, we're better off voting for candidates whose only policies are:
- Because I'm a woman.
- Look at me, I have a funny name.
- LOL LETS KEEP CAMPAIGNING TO STOP VSU EVEN AFTER IT COMES IN!
etc

The Quah Report, November 2004: It doesn't end there though. Women's Officers don't just deny men's rights; they're also blind to the values and beliefs of the many women they supposedly represent. Our Women's Officers seem to believe that all women have a shared political interest that all women must support. Identity politics demands that all women should support the Women's Office, and it is on this basis that our student funds continue to maintain this office. At the 2004 University of Sydney Student Representative Council election, one candidate in particular was very vocal about her sole credential to lead - that she's the only woman running, and that people should vote for her for no other reason than the fact that her two opponents were both male. So it doesn't matter about the rest of her policy, as long as we vote for her because she (I assume) doesn't have a Y chromosome. Her party had conveniently overlooked the fact that there were plenty of women on campus who disagreed with their so-called female-friendly policy, so not only had they ignored men's issues, they ignored women's.

By the looks of this thread, those for VSU are those who have zero social life.
If you're entire social life exists within the confines of Sydney Uni then god help you..

Hmm melbournian has changed greatly from his ealier stance. Maybe he finally realised he ends up ahead with USU because with his 9 hour week he can partake in rockclimbing in his lunchtime unlike others who need that time to eat lunch.

i will pay the SRC fee, and maybe some of the Union fee, depending on what services will be available. I dont care about cheap food etc, its cheaper up Ross st anyways, but i think there is a need for student financial help, tutoring, help with english and maths etc. I dont agree with funding societies, especially ones that serve no purpose except providing a group of ppl to get drunk with.

I will not pay a sports union fee.

Whats wrong with that?
I live on campus, obviously most of my social life will be either on or around campus.
Nothing's wrong with that, I guess it's just a matter of perspective
If you think those that support VSU have "zero" social lives, then it just shows you haven't gone out much.
