Ummmm you sure you're setting the password for your account correctly.

Start>

in the start panel click on the user icon.

then click on Back

and go to Change my password.

your not logging in as the admin account. Win XP has a special admin account called "administrator" which always has a password, you don't usually need this.
The passowrd for this is set when you install winxp.

If you want to add a password to your personal account
just go

control pannel --> user accounts --> change an account --> youname --> create a password

you really shouldn't use the admin account, some personal settings aren't remembered.

But your choice. I got no idea why it would log off suddenly.

Um iis your problem its not asking you for a password when you turn the computer on?
If so go to Start-> Settings->control panel->User Options and there should be a tick box for "Users need to enter a password to use this computer" or similar (i don't actually have xp, only 2k, so it might be a bit different)

It doesn't always have a password I cant remember being prompted to create one for it in the instillation although you can set the password after you finish the instillation.

Ok ill try this Tweak UI.

I set a password, i checked the box that says welcome screen on start up. But the screen just comes up briefly and logs me right in.

It does have an article in windows help about how to check the box so that it remembers your password, maybe thats what happened. But it doesnt say anything about how to un-do this memory feature...

Alas.

Also just one other thing...when i go into user accounts and go to change an account just to see what's ther, its got the guest account disabled, my account (admin) password protected and then some other ASP.NET Machine A....'s account - which it says is limited and password protected. Whats that all about ?

The ASP.NET account was created upon the installation of the Microsoft .NET Framework, you can disable this account if desired.

Have you tried my suggestion by creating a new account under the Administrator user group yet?

go to ur desktop
right click 'My Computer'
go to 'Manage'

the users and groups thing should be there.

just make sure you add yourself as an admin.
