theres more material in a formal dress then here is in a shirt, hence why people prefer to pay more for a dress, then they do for a shirt

?? thats my answer/guess towards that statement.

I doubt you could justify paying $150 for a lot of shoddy, shiny unbreathable material you'd only wear a few times, compared to $150 for an ideal t-shirt you might be wearing once a week for the next few years.

I mean, how much did your formal shawl cost sofe?
Wouldn't you have rather spent that money on upgrading the quality of something/anything you'd use regularly, however inexpensive its cost price may be?
My yr 10 shawl cost $40, it was a piece of crap quality-wise and i'm thankful that i managed to return it.

Well I do agree that I'd much prefer to spend a large amount on casual clothes I'll get heaps of use out of than on a formal dress I'll wear once. It makes sense. A lot of sense.

but they're probably gonna only wear that dress once in their entire life .. whereas if a shirt is (hopefully) well-made/well-designed enough for someone to want to justify spending $150 on it, then that person is probably gonna get a hell of a lot more use out of it than the dress, no?

but still, personally, i wouldnt pay $100+ on a shirt, even if i know i will wear it heaps, as i know i will be able to find something equally, or even more, awesome. but at a cheaper price.

The amount of money isn't the significant thing.

But as a passing comment, wouldn't you have rather spent $30 extra (than you usually do) on a kick-arse belt? Shawls make you look old anyway.

I ask because I was meandering about Myer's designer section yesterday, scoffing to myself at the thought that someone would actually fork out that much money on clothes.

Personally, I wouldn't care whether Almighty God himself hand sewed the damn thing. I wouldn't fork out $150 for a flipping tshirt.

I have a friend who buys t-shirts worth $400-600. Yeah he is bloody rich grrr!

I don't spend that much money on a t-shirt... the highest amount i would spend is $30. I can use that other $120 on something far more important, like food and entertainment.

Keep in mind that in may cases you get what you pay for, you should expect high quality craftsmanship for the $500+ you just spent. A good piece of clothing may last you decades. They say Canali suits (as well as certain other fashion houses) will last you a lifetime and this is certainly reflected in the price.

Chances are i would.. and then probably regret it later when i saw about 5 shirts i liked for the same price.. varietys better IMO but thats only coz i might get sick of wearing it. If it was for a business suit or a blazer, even for a perfect fitting pair of jeans i'd pay way more than that only because they are staple items for me

I dont think I've ever paid over $50 for a t-shirt - but $150 is the standard price for a Soccer or NRL jersey. I'm saving up for a Sharkies retro one (I dont work so I just save up what my parents give me) - but the point is, more than half of sporting fans have a jersey, and they cost $150-180 (even though you can getstuff from the same material for $25-$30).

I'm just waiting for a sale.

not all homemade belts look like arse.
ive seen some really awesome ones.

and ive never altered anything with fabric paint.
but i would consider using fabric paint.
so far i have only used thread and beads ad safety pins and ribbon during alterations.

and i wouldnt spend extra money on a belt, when there is one similar for cheaper.
