Hey guys, was wondering if y'all could help me on something.
I have been thinking about getting a tutor but I do not know if it would be worth it. I am in the top 5 for all of the classes I'll be taking in year 11, so would getting a tutor still be very beneficial to me? How many hours would you recommend? Also, would there be a big difference between a $25 p.h. tutor and one that costs $50+? (I ask this because I am not as financially fortunate as some).

Thanks!

Try making notes at the end of each week according to the syllabus so that you are always staying on top of your notes, especially before all exams/assignments come at once.

Get a tutor only if you feel like you need that extra help in a subject or if you are struggling to keep up. Have you had any tutors before? Since you are doing well across all your subjects you may not need one but its up to you.

Thanks for your reply. No, I have never had one before. I was thinking that it might help to get ahead and bring my marks up a little bit to get those A+'s

I think the price the tutor charges is not necessarily a reflection of the quality of teaching, sometimes people with high ATARs simply charge more to ensure they get the best students. Getting a tutor or not will depend on the degree of self-discipline and intrinsic motivation you have, if you have high enough motivation and you can maintain it over a prolonged period, getting a tutor is not necessary for good results. You need to also consider your school rank-getting top 5 in all subjects in a low-ranked school is different from getting top 5 in all subjects in a high-ranked school. I wouldn't recommend more than 4 hours of tutoring per week, so essentially I think 2-3 subjects should be tops, I think some tutors offer trial lessons, so you might take advantage of this to see whether tutoring does work for you. If you do get a tutor, make sure you are getting a tutor for the subjects you are the weakest in. Just make sure you are making an informed decision:)-best wishes for your studies this year:)
