I actually do debating at school but I haven't participated in any comps but there is proof that I'm part of ittry debate if you're after awards (especially under premiers comp) as it's more widely recognised and rewarding because after I started debate I genuinely felt better at listening, expanding my vocab and develop stronger critical thinking. Again, my feedback is regarding my experience with a different harvard crimson comp which may not apply to others.
@spiderlemonade can i also have the resources please? Can I have it too? Thank you
Yeah can you send me resources too?Hey i got into ruse this year for entry into year 9, i can DM you everything i used to prepare for the test if you want
'stealing' from an edutest student is crazy n thnxs 4 the poster still n my case is similar to ur except im much younger (ik u didnt ask but who cares )Hey guys, I'm a James Ruse graduate of 2020, and currently I study at Usyd for med. I tutored 4 kids, all of whom got into james ruse transfers. I too was a transfer, for entry into year 11, so I figured today I could provide some help in terms of extra curricular and other tests too. Something that really sets a difference after you get your edutest results is how outstanding your application is. Personally, I tried 2 previous times and I didn't get in, so from experience, I've collated a few extracurricular activities you could go to. However, most of these activites have finished as of this year, so I'll upload those in November, so this is the last remaining prestigious one.
Take a look at Harvard Crimson Global Case Competition. Here, I placed 2nd, and this made a huge difference for me in the interviews, as the Ruse principal herself said that was one of the main deciding factors. I'd like to mention that not a lot of people sign up to this competition, and even though you do have to pay a fee, there are promo codes, which I have managed to secure and show you guys, and they provide participation certificates and other grand awards that will really create the difference on your CV. Even if its a participation certificate, it really does make the final difference for applicants at the interview stage, especially as one as prestigious as Harvard University. And paying the fee is worth it because at the end of the day, if you do end up getting in, you'll be at a school you like better, and that's all that matters. If you do win, you get crazy prizes of up to $1500 and you get like mentored by some of the prestigious university staff, so thats extra on your CV, and also you work in teams so dw about being or speaking alone
Here is the promo code that I managed to find: AMB4381
I just signed up![]()
so I'm not allowed to send the link, but just search up Harvard Crimson Global Case Competition and register
I'm pretty sure registrations close by the 18th or something, so if you're interested, apply quickly. Sorry for the long messageYou can look at the poster i stole of my edutest student for more info

yea me 2, 4 my lil bro (just in case i forget yk)Yeah can you send me resources too?
absolutely, when my students talked with the principal, they mention reports being a key factor. then extra curricular. that being said, i think you should have a fair amount of extracurricular and at least 1 external or internal academic achievement to maximise your chances. good luck, especially entry into year 9, is the biggest opportunity amongst all other grades.Do you think it is possible to gain entry for year 9 if your supporting documents aren't amazing, but you do really well on the Edutest?
lol, yeah dw good luck if you're applying next year!'stealing' from an edutest student is crazy n thnxs 4 the poster still n my case is similar to ur except im much younger (ik u didnt ask but who cares )
debating can do you well, but from my experience, debating is something common amongst all applicants, because their principal (former) said many kids came with same extra curriculars, and different ones appealed to them more, of course after looking thoroughly through their reports and edutest. not to mention that ruse is strong in debating, so theyd usually look for people who are strong in other assets that they're weak in or not so strong. but i would still recommend you continue debating and do debating competitions, because after all they won't take away from your cv, they'll only enhance itI actually do debating at school but I haven't participated in any comps but there is proof that I'm part of it
yes i agree with their writing competition. their writing competition was really bad, I personally am not sour about not getting in, but even top tier students found it not very useful, so yeah the writing competition is a waste of money. the harvard case comp is worth it because you're in teams, and you could end up with a very experienced person, and as a team of 4 you work together. even so, the experience is fun, you get a certificate and thats it, considering its under a pretty large harvard company. their harvard case comp is completely diff from their harvard writing comp. you should give it a go if you want to. its $15usd with the promo code.
im n thnxslol, yeah dw good luck if you're applying next year!
there's no "minimum" amount, because it matters about the level of your achivement. you could be getting distinction for 100 certificates, but it wont' be as good as 3 "high distinction/gold medal" certificates. if your performance will be average, i would say do around 3-4 in a year, so considering its half of the current year and a full last year that they ask in the application - do around 5-6 comps/extracurriculars. but then again its subjective, there are people who had minimal certificates and still got inDoes anyone know like a good amount or the minimum amount for top schools lile baulko ruse or girra of extra curriculars and/or competitions to put down for their portfolio
