Anyone know roughly how competitive nsb is in terms of year 10 entry?
Next year I’m thinking of doing one of the prestigious schools as first pref (ruse, nsb, baulko)
and then penrith and Girraween as 2nd and 3rd
I would recommend trying out for Baulko, I think NSB and JR are usually very competitive for year 10 entry and they typically may have around 1 to 5 spots(can vary). For Baulko you would need 4 superiors for year 10 entry based on our students results this year.

Do you reckon they care much about extracurriculars? And like roughly how many spots are opened and how many people usually try out?

It depends on how many people leave the school in that grade I think. There was only 1 spot for Ruse year 8 and 1 for year 10 entry this year but last year for year 8 entry there were 4
I think ruse is wayyy out of my league 😭 especially considering how one of your friends didn’t make it with 4 superiors in the year they opened 30 spots

Lmao me too i recognised one from my tutoring when we were at the exam, maybe they live closer or have more friends in ruse. I heard from someone who tried out for baulko that there were ruse kids trying to get into baulko 💔

Nah they got like 2 or 3 superiors if it's the friend i think you're talking about. For me and the friend I made at orientation I got 4 superiors and they got 5
Oh.. I can’t lie my only struggle is verbal reasoning since I suck w words and the all blips are flops type questions.. I mean if you think it’s worth trying out for ruse next year I’ll definitely give it all I got and do any exc opportunities u think could boost my application. I don’t do tutoring or anything :v

Thank you!! But you said you went to a top 20 selective school right? I currently go to a low ranked school, so wouldn’t they take our reports differently?
nah they don’t care they’ve even accepted people from a 70+ school but that’s only recently , they didn’t do that in its peak . They accepted people who aren’t from a selective nor private school either so dw. Did you get that B on a core subject like math, Eng or sci?

nope, only HSIE. I got As for the rest of the subjects. How many ppl do you think apply for yr 9?
bro you’re good to go, keep that up in year 8 sem 1, cause rhe most recent one is the primary report, and you’re getting in if you get good edu marks. As long as it’s not a core subject you’re fine.

As for your second question, people that come to the school to take the test would be 100+ because there’s a whole hall for year 8, whereas some other grades take the test together in the same area. It would be 150+ realistically considering people would have put it second or something like nsb 1, jr 2, etc

it’s heavy competition but just prep your edu and you’re good. Don’t need to worry too much s out extracurricular it only matters in the higher grades
