why is it that a complex number in the form |xyi| is simplified to |x|*|y|?

|xyi|
= |xy| (because the absolute value of i is 1 )
=|y| *|x|

it's bascilly the same as algebra equation, but they changed the brackets into absolute value signs.
i dont know what ur talking about

its because mod (xyi)=sqroot((xy)^2)=|xy|=|x|*|y|

Are you sure |i| = 1? :S

|i| means the modulus of i. If you sketch a vector of i on the Argand diagram the modulus is clearly 1.
Also, using |x + iy| = √(x² + y²), when x = 0, y = 1
|i| = √(0² + 1²) = 1
