basically since einstein and the early 20th century our way at looking at the world have changed, would there be another discovery that makes fantasy reality in your'e opinion and why? or is this it,"the end of the line" for modern physics?

Methinks one day they might find out how to travel into the future, but not the past.

Also, high school physics is nothing compared to real physics. My tutor keeps going on about how it might possible to make some theoretical machine that lets you warp space time and literally 'fold' the universe as you walk through the fold, letting you essentially teleport through matter.

Think of it this way. If we could travel into the past or, if at some point in the future, we could travel into the past, then we would be encountering time travel tourists, wouldn't we?

youngminii,i think what youre teacher is describing are wormholes or warp dives and alcalder its very true what youre saying but what if time forks out like a lake into rivers and our universe started out like a lake and now is just one stream out of many rivers.

so i think if game theory or the "butterfly effect" is applied in this context then i think noone could "swim upstream" but rather could "jump" into another stream either above or below it depending on how someone changes their frequency/energy levels, thats what i think would someday happen in the future but i dont know how.

for all we know, our present is the past of another parallel universe

if time travel were possible, and our present is the past of another universe/generation (time travellers, what you will), then wouldn't people from the future come back to our time and fix certain problems, or come up with some genius invention and become rich now.

and what if two people from the future, say A and B came back to say hitler's time and decided to kill him. but they came back at different times say A came back 2 years before B and hence killed hitler first. but then B travelled back to that same time and killed hitler. would hitler still have been alive for person B to kill. would B be teleported back to the standard time with the standard history which we've recorded, or would the time B is teleported back to be the history which A has now messed up? or would they both just travel back to that same period of time, both kill him according to their frame of reference (dunno if this phrase can be used in this context but it's the best way to describe it), and if so then who do we record as the assassin? A or B, assuming they both killed him according to their frames of reference.

I would assume that at least two alternate realities would be created where in one A was the one that killed Hitler and the other one where B was the one that killed Hitler.

lol @ reference to game theory

if you're interested in time travel, we did a fair bit of it in philosophy, and I suggest you look up godfrey smith and everett....very interesting people/ideas....

btw the whole encountering time travel tourists argument is pretty easy to refute - they just travelled into a parallel universe :D
thats just an ad hoc explanation, what suggests they travelled into a parallel universe? occams razor shaves it off

(im genuinely interested)

also sikhman, does the philosophy course have like a syllabus or something? reading list?

okay now let's bring in a third person, C, who also travels back to hitler's time. but instead saves hitler from the dude who killed him. so if now 3 different realities exist does that mean hitler is dead in two of them but alive in the third?
isn't this sort of like... voldemort in harry potter, splitting his soul 7 times...LOL =.=

You can travel forward in time, kinda. With relativity, ty Einstein. So I can, theoretically, move quickly for a second and be 100 years in the future.
However the inverse of this is not travelling backwards in time, rather you can become older than you should be. I could, theoretically, move in a different direction for 100 years, and everyone else had only advanced 1 second. This is a bit dodgier.

One of the worst explanations ever. But it kinda makes sense.

pretty sure I've studied time travel for at least a week in physics. so like 4 whole hours worth.
Dont imply I wouldnt know about it.

completely missed my point young man
sure hsc physics gives you a basic understanding of the fundamentals
but how ignorant must you be to assume that some of the greatest minds in the world, with far more knowledge in the field, wouldnt have maybe already covered this same area a million times before

screams ignorance. esp the part where you mentioned how you studied it for a whole week lol i hope you were being sarcastic
