Explain - Relate, cause and effect. It's a "because" as a linking word or anything similar.
Discuss - Identify your issue, and draw up a table listing FOR and AGAINST. Done.
Analyse - Draw up a table listing the relationships. Provide why and/or how.

I don't think specific "scientific" linking phrases are important. As long as you get the general gist of the science involved and what each verb means, you should be fine :).

Oh yuh, also know your strong verbs (Assess, Evaluate) and weak verbs (Identify) well. Target the stronger ones and prepare modelled responses for it.
