Evony Lawyers are using Draconian Australian defamation laws to sue a blogger, who has been critical of evony.

Don’t play Evony — Bruce On Games

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/dec/11/evony-sues-british-blogger

its on wikipedia as well

"On 25 August 2009, Evony's lawyers threatened to sue a critical blogger for defamation.[10] The developers of Evony have denied the allegations from internet blogger Bruce Everiss, based in Coventry, and have sent a cease and desist letter for defamation based on Australian law.[11] Everiss responded by linking to a documentary which reportedly shows evidence of Evony's fraudulent history.[12] The case would have potentially created a legal precedent over defamation charges for worldwide defamation being ordered from a domestic court had Everiss been found guilty.[13] However shortly before the case was due to begin in Sydney, Evony parted with their legal team and asked for an adjournment of the case.[14]"

A bill of rights would stop this ( at least for our country)

But alot of people think this is a waste of time, or there against it because its American..

Most people do not realise there common rights are being violated. The best example i can think of forced union membership in universities, which was corrected by John Howard and the liberal party.

Because the blogger is British, our courts can't do anything, but they can stop the webpage being loaded in Australia ( if evony wins the case the page is illegal). And thus the blog is entered into our fucking mandatory blacklist... there you have it freedom of speech could be potentially be violated...

Don't you think its strange there sueing a UK blogger using courts "Down under" British people must be laughing at us... Imagine what we look like to them. If this case is not thrown out this will be an dismemberment to Australia

If this blogger has indeed defamed Evony what is the problem? It's a rank defamation case the kind of which has been around since god knows when. Does the fact that he posted it on the internet instead of in a magazine or newspaper give it immunity?

Then why does evony have to sue him using Australian courts? when he lives in the UK

The reason is.... it will be thrown out of UK courts

If you read his blog what he says is true, who are the courts to decide what is truth and what 'defamation'. If evony wins it will be a victory for censorship.

"Evony, an online games company registered in the US state of Delaware, is suing Coventry-based blogger Bruce Everiss for libel over a series of allegations made on his website. In a bizarre twist, however, Evony has decided not to pursue its case in Britain or America, but 10,000 miles away.

A hearing in Sydney on Monday will determine whether or not the supreme court of New South Wales has jurisdiction – with the potential to set a precedent for the way defamation laws are applied to the online world."

The Internet the forefront for freedom of speech.
To answer your question, if he wrote his blog in a magazine here, he could lose, if he wrote it in the US or UK then he would be pretty immune.

I would think the court case be thrown out because they are using another countries legal system.

It would be like Australia taking a Canadian to court for drug importation using the Indonesian legal system

I truly hope so, otherwise it will destroy freedom of speech on the internet, especially in Australia.

If what he says is true then it should indeed be thrown out because nobody would have been defamed, has nothing to do with the internet.

We defs don't want a bill of rights because 200 years from now australia will be stuck with completely irrelevant laws which will have only really applied to our current society.

This is why America is stuck with the second amendment which, 200 years ago, may have been relevant. Now they are unable to tighten up restrictions on weapons which is something they really need to do.

*fuck*

are you american, btw?

Standard retarded argument against a decentralisation of power.

The second amendment isn't a problem and is a strong defense against encroachment of governmental power.

Outdated rules such as rules against unlawful search and seizure?

Freedom of speech?

Freedom from cruel and unusual punishment?

Wow.

The right to bear arms shall not be infringed.

It is the bog standard retarded argument against a bill of rights to strawman the second amendment because you don't understand its place there.

You wanted to come across as an ill-educated dickhead with no understanding of the bill of rights and you did so.

You then straw-manned the rest of my post, proving you are in fact, unable to argue anything regarding the bill of rights.

GG fucktard.
