Hey,

I'm thinking ahead really but out of curiosity, if you did 4 unit maths next year and failed it but however did very well in 3 unit, will your 4 unit mark scale ur 3 unit mark down?

Consider these two examples:

1. Next year I do 3 unit and in my HSC i get a band 6

OR

2. Next year I do 4 unit but for my 4 unit HSC exam i get a band 3, but still get a band 6 in 3 unit.

Presuming that I get the same marks for 3 unit for both examples, will they affect my ATAR in the same way? As I got a band 6 in 3 unit for both. Or will the bad marks in 4 unit drag me down.
In other words, which one of those examples are "better" in terms of ATAR.

Your 4 unit mark won't effect your 3 unit mark, think of them as two completely different subjects like a bad biology mark won't effect a physics mark.

So there's no real harm in doing 4 unit even if u fail it?

Not really, just if you spend time on it and fail it then it's time wasted.

Like above, it's time spent better else where.

4u requires at least 2 hours a day.

Look at it this way:
If you do 4 unit next year,
>3 unit will count for 2 units and
>4 unit will count for 2 units

If you don't do 4 unit next year, but do 3 unit
>3 unit will count for 1 unit
>2 unit will count for 2 units

So if you do 4 unit:
>2 unit won't count
>3 unit will count double

If you are going to do 4unit, you have to make sure you are ontop of all your other subjects. I'll probably drop it, because I can't cope with the 4unit workload combined with my other subjects (mainly english, which I'm terrible at).

Math's is my best and favourite subject, but you can't neglect you're other units.

2nd option would be a better advantage if you are considering doing any university courses that require first year mathematics :p

but if you want to ace maths, I suggest the first option... but nevertheless you can always work and think effectively in answering questions to get an E4 for ext 2 maths :p
