iirc, last years paper was also one of the easier/more straight forward ones, so the b6 cutoff was higher than usual. (then again, whether or not our paper was harder is all subjective anyway)

so if it really was 79/105 in 2010 (idk, but that does sound about right) then we could expect something lower or around the same.

we'll have to wait for paper 2 though

English Advanced [2009]
77.68% RAW -> 90.6%

it was about the same actually, if not a little lower for 2010 comparatively to 2009

Imo this years AOS paper was more challenging than last years, as place is pretty vague and there's only so much you can talk about before your writing can be classified as "waffling"

So if I got 91/105 (86%) in trials, I would possibly be able to get a band 6 in the hsc exams?

you should be certain that you'd get that a band 6, but provided that you got that same mark you did in the trial, since what you get in the trials won't mean you'll get that exact same mark in the HSC

I know, I'll either do better or worse but if I get similar then I'll be able to get a band 6? I didn't realise how the scaling worked until I saw this thread lol.

You guys have to realise that your raw marks get aligned not scaled. Scaling is done by UAC and aligning is done by BoS. BoS will moderate your raw mark - through aligning - then calculate your HSC mark with the internal marks - provided by your school - which are also heavily moderated. Once you get these HSC marks then you put them into the ATAR calculator and it scales them to get an estimated ATAR.

But remember raw marks are a lot lower than your HSC mark. For example, a 73/100 in chemistry aligns to a 90 HSC mark, etc..
Here's a quick explanation for you.

what if your internal rank is 35/64.

What raw mark do you have to achieve to even have a chance of getting a band 6. Suppose the cohort does reasonably well
