I actually love music a lot, but I am going to have to put that aside for 2 years. You need to do the same since music will not guarantee you success you will need to have a backup. Going to university can help you achieve your dreams of becoming a musician. There are more opportunities than high school, new doors will open up for you. If you can achieve your goal of becoming a musician by the time you finish uni you can just leave and never graduate however graduating will grant you with a backup plan. So if things go wrong you will have a diploma and you will find a job eventually. You could also consider going to a conservatorium if you really love music that much. You will need to take it very seriously and professionally. I am not sure how seriously you take your instrument or you might just be doing it for fun. You can be a music teacher, or maybe play in an orchestra (I doubt guitarists can do that though lol). Anyway, I wish you all the best. Just do what you love to do but try your hardest to reach it. If you wanna be a guitarist or a musician, you will need to practice all day, every day. If you want to get into a specific degree you will need to study all day, every day. The only way you can reach success is to work for it. But whatever you do, don't leave school as I am sure you will definitely regret it. Don't give up, and work hard towards your goals. I can never work hard for something if the thing that I am working for will never be what I love and dream to become. So if you don't know what to do in university and want to become a professional musician, you should consider going to a conservatorium. My opinion is if you are into rock and that type of music, then you should get into a degree that you will somewhat enjoy, use university to get into bands and from there your band might get gigs at local cafe's and eventually you might become popular who knows. And finish your degree just in case. And use that as your vision to study.

I love music more than software engineering, but I music will always be my main hobby and I will take it very seriously and I will also probably form a band too.

P.S I hope I helped :)

P.P.S - Feel free to PM me

EDIT: Wow, this is pretty long.

haha it was long but oh well. as u can probably see, i don't take music as a subject. :( if i did i think my parents would laugh at me. They keep telling me I should do something in science or medicine or engineering but I don't think my heart is in that stuff anymore. If i had to do anything in uni I would want to do something in the multimedia field, and i tried telling that to my dad but he thinks i should do a double degree of that and something like science..
but i really just don't know if i want to do science :/ the expectations my parents have is putting pressure on me and i don't know what i want to do when i finish school, but i just really love music and wish i could do that but it would never happen so... :( :( :(
me and my friends have sort of formed a band thing for fun at the moment...i don't know where it'll lead to..
if i had taken music for year 11 and 12 maybe i could do a degree in music, but i don't think my parents would encourage that...i mean i want to do something like animation or games design if i go to uni, but my dad keeps telling me that i should combine it with science or engineering or i should study medicine. >.>

Do you have asian parents?
My parents are pretty strict too about this, but they will never force to do something I do not enjoy, They told me that you can be anything as long as you enjoy it and are really good at it.
Just tell them that you don't want to end up with a job that you will not enjoy for the rest of your life. Also you could do Computer Science at UNSW and major in Game Development which is a proper degree. In fact, the game La Noir was developed in Sydney by Computer Science graduates from UNSW. Please do something you enjoy.

Also I wouldn't recommend forming a band at this time since you won't have much time. I quit my band at the end of year 10. But I will go back into it after I get into uni. And I don't know why choosing music is a bad thing, it doesn't make you dumb. It is very hard to get a band 6 in music but its not impossible and requires nearly University standard aural skills and performance. What I am saying is its not a subject for dumb people, and if people laugh at you for doing music then they have no idea about subjects whatsoever.

Computer Science does require a lot of math though, so if you don't enjoy math you shouldn't do it. If you are good at drawing and stuff, you could do graphics design.

You can do a degree in he multimedia field and continue with your band outside of uni so have the best of both worlds :)

I understand the pressure of parental expectations but do not be too confrontational and at the same time do not give in, when time comes to put your preferences for uni, put the ones you want, and if ur parents question it say u want to do it and becausw u want to do it u r determined to make ur way to the top of that field, that if u do another degree u will not have the same passion and motivation to succeed anyway.

Medicine would be a horrendous nightmare to do if you do not want to do it, trust me

yeah.
i have absolutely no interest in medicine. and my dad keeps telling me that i don't have to be a GP and i know that, he reckons i should specialise in something, but i just don't want to do it. I just don't think i would enjoy it at all.

Choose something you enjoy :). Are you leaning towards a certain passion / field?

Because I'm being more realistic.
If you were being realistic you should put it back up to 95 + ATAR :p

Please don't tell me you changed it after you received your mathematics mark, it's just one measly test and is nothing in comparison to the actually HSC.

A lot of times, feelings of hopelessness can come from comparing yourself to other people. It's very difficult to compare yourself to others, because we only see what's on the surface. From the sound of things, you seem to have a strong external locus, where your influenced a lot by external stuff (parents and others). Try to focus more on yourself - is there something in particular which you alone want to pursue, are there certain goals which you value?
