    Dentistry or Medicine

No you don't get the point. Dentists also save lives and by minimalising their contribution to society is gross ignorance. Dentists can and will make certain medical diagnoses but they will ask their patient to go to a doctor as doctors are probably more experienced in dealing with the issues...

    Dentistry or Medicine

Endocarditis, Abscess, Sjogrens etc all may have or be the result of dental problems. I think people don't take oral health as seriously. I thought in the past dental hygiene was excessive but now I try to take care of my teeth.

    Dentistry or Medicine

Yes maxfax requires both a medical and surgical degrees. Didn't like just dealing with teeth. Wanted a holistic view of health. Perhaps I should have picked up on my dentistry offer because medicine is god damn difficult with the additional training years whereas you can practice dentistry...

Are the F2F and Medentry Papers similar to the UMAT at all?

ACER has a pool of questions just like universities. They pick from those pool of questions. If Medentry has a pool of ACER questions from previous years sometimes a few may actually come up in the actual UMAT. That's what I think anyway. You think medicine isn't about endurance? I suggest you...

    Dentistry or Medicine

Dentistry should be considered to be its own degree as it is essentially medicine of only the mouth. Oral medicine is so specialised that it is called dentistry. I have a feeling other specialties will move away from medicine in the future into their own degrees as the amount of information for...

Are the F2F and Medentry Papers similar to the UMAT at all?

From experience F2F has many mistakes. The year I did my test 3 or so questions from Medentry actually was almost 100% similar to the UMAT suggesting Medentry had people memorise the questions. Medentry is probably more tailored towards UMAT in my opinion but times may have changed. That being...

I don't do Chemistry for high school...can I still get into Medicine?

Agreed with Havoc. Know which universities have the pre-requisites for chemistry. I think Adelaide might but they have a variable pre-requisites (You just need to fit two options of a list). Just do some research if you want to apply interstate. As for chemistry in medicine. Medicine does not...

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

Sure. Advice for one person doesn't necessarily make it advice for another. I doubt celadoncity has any specific idea of what it's like to apply for specialty training at this point in time. I'm going to stick to PM replies only from now on considering the nature of responses here. Edit: I'll...

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

My initial information wasn't to address how to navigate medical specialties. Otherwise I would have said so in the topic. My initial intention was to let other's know even GP specialty is oversubscribed which has never happened ever in Australia. As medical students consider GP as a backup that...

The process by which DNA controls the production of polypeptides

It seriously isn't that hard. Many youtube videos will be over inclusive of information regarding translation and transcription. Perhaps try a bio textbook? You don't need to know the subunits of ribosomes, just the main players. Transcription = information from DNA > transcribed to RNA > RNA...

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

I did offer advice about navigating poor job prospects but people with amirbang refuse to listen until another med student actually agreed with my input (That an MD will actually increase your chances if you manage to publish). The crux of the problem is people who obstruct the flow of true...

Depends on how busy I am. I give out advice freely but I don't do specific teaching for free because it takes a long time to convey a point across. If you want a price on my interview training PM me.

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

Fair point but if amirbang continues to attack me on a personal level then that makes it different. If you read his posts he instigates personal attacks. I try refute what he says but he just says I'm arrogant, good logic.

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

Birds of a feather flock together. No but I sure know more about it than those people who aren't even studying medicine and those who haven't yet spoken to junior and senior doctors about the future of medicine. Perhaps if you were about to graduate you'll care more about your future career. I...

    2014 ATAR estimate

From my understanding. School rank does matter as it affects your HSC mark through the process of alignment.

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

PGY2 you're still under your initial contract so it wouldn't matter, you will need some rotations in IM. For PGY3 it is getting increasingly more difficult to find a job as a SRMO without specialising as a BPT. Even BPT's now are beginning to miss out on places due to the increased number of...

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

I was referring to NSW but Australia as a whole. If you do count Australia as a whole then yes dentistry places have significantly increased and some dentistry students are finding it hard to find a job but last year's batch of USYD BDS found jobs within 6 months. If you go rural it's no problem...

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

Nah GP training positions were never oversubscribed in the past, everyone got a GP position if they applied in the past. I don't know why you talk as if you know so much about medicine when what you say has not been 100% accurate i.e. MD=MBBS, reading journals help improve interview etc...

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

Just a heads up to anyone deciding to pursue a career in medicine. All specialties (including GP because it is "general" specialty) have been oversubscribed by doctors who have completed their internship. 10-15% of doctors missed out on GP training. This means medicine will only get more...

How to become a doctor in medicine?

Getting a high 90's ATAR is actually easier than doing well at uni to get the equivalent of a high 90's ATAR. Your best bet is to give it a shot this year and see how things go. If you live in the GWS region UWS's cutoff is much lower and in the end they only look at your UMAT and interview when...
