What are the differences between a medical science and a health science degree?

Not sure about health science job opportunities but medical science job opportunities are extremely limited.

    Is Medentry worth it?

If you do a search you will find more extensive answers to your question. It's been discussed many times before.

    Is Medentry worth it?

    Nope now stop asking.

    Low Mendentry Percentiles!!! Stressin Out!!!!

No one knows unless you want to test everyone. Oh wait that's what the UMAT is for. You never know but doing poorly is never a good sign. You probably are looking for assurance by asking this question but really no one knows. You need to lift your chin up and study harder and more efficiently...

    Is UMAT necessary??

^Doesn't optometry also require UMAT? You need to get your terms right if you ever want to pursue a career in that field. Like what havoc said medicine=doctor as in hospital doctors, GPs etc. Healthcare= physiotherapy, optometry, nursing, dietician etc.

I know this gets asked a lot, but are Medentry percentiles an indication of UMAT's?

Re: I know this gets asked a lot, but are Medentry percentiles an indication of UMAT' I got 70-90's for Medentry towards the end more around 80's and in the end got around 93 for actual UMAT I think from memory. If your time management is the issue that will be a problem in the actual UMAT...

Would you do a PHD for medicine?

Lowly med student not enjoying life. Would probably suit surg but minor health issues and the inability to stay awake with not enough sleep is a no no for surg. I don't really want to do internal medicine because there's just too much information to commit to memory, I'm dying already...

Would you do a PHD for medicine?

Your mum is bawss what does she do now?

Would you do a PHD for medicine?

It does, btw when do you graduate?. I've heard that for some AT positions they make you promise to do a PHD. Regarding dermatology, the only two ways to get into the program is to have a PHD in derm and kiss lots of ass or graduate top in your cohort in a reputable university (USYD, UMelb, UNSW...

Would you do a PHD for medicine?

A friend I know does it concurrently so whatever time he has from hospital he spends doing his PHD. He is taking a year off to finish it so I guess the arrangement is flexible. What are you thinking of ending up in? Also from speaking to a few people who had already completed their PHDs...

Would you do a PHD for medicine?

Consultants keep mentioning that ideally we need a PHD's in order to be competitive to get a job in a hospital. This is most likely true due to the increased amount of med students in NSW in particular and also the amount of overseas trained doctors flooding Australia. Bumped into an overseas...

Most helpful subjects to study at university for GAMSAT

If you look at physiology as a whole probably not but there are a lot of questions which touch on physiology. Have you actually sat the GAMSAT? I do agree biology is more straight forward than organic chemistry but if you want to be fully prepared you'll need physiology more than the other...

Most helpful subjects to study at university for GAMSAT

Your first 2 years of medicine will be mainly physiology so it is actually useful. Also the biology in GAMSAT is heavily physiology based. In my year of 2010 there was two sections on hearts which I would have aced if I knew the physiology of the heart. In terms of usefulness I would say...

Most helpful subjects to study at university for GAMSAT

Anatomy is helpful only slightly but is low yield in the context of how much you need to remember and how much actually comes up in the GAMSAT.

    Is UMAT workshop worth it??

Most of my learning were from figuring it out myself. I learnt very little in the workshop they provided. They only provided very general advice which I think anyone with half a brain should be able to figure it out for themselves. i.e. do questions through elimination technique, read the...

Will i be able to handle medicine?

You need to do well in all 3 components! ATAR, UMAT and Interview Good Luck! Make sure you practice. All my interview students that did not follow my advice and practice failed to get into medicine, I wasn't surprised.
  17. M

    Medical Science. A good idea?

C minimum as a barrier and GAMSAT as a barrier for interview offer. Your final ranking is based on your interview performance. Coming from USYD myself and being offered medicine and dentistry. Despite USYD's prestige their teaching sucks. Prestige should not be the reason you're picking...

Will i be able to handle medicine?

No offence to your teacher but he/she has a teaching degree not a medical degree. I reason why I think they think so is because 20 years ago that was the case but it has changed dramatically. Drop out rates aren't high, they are actually relatively low. My grade there is probably around a 3-5%...

Will i be able to handle medicine?

Surviving medicine isn't about doing certain high school subjects. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either an idiot or just as uninformed as you.
