    Chances of getting into Medicine?

Easier said than done. I'm helping a two PHD students go for their USYD interviews and they aren't even good at answering the questions despite many years in the work force then again USYD is scenario based. Undergraduate interviews are probably easier but still.

    Chances of getting into Medicine?

Should I take the UMAT exam to drag everyone's percentile down?
  6. M

    Chances of getting into Medicine?

I predict 69% because it is a symmetric number.

For those of you who have sat the GAMSAT; how different was it to the UMAT?

GAMSAT is knowledge based unlike UMAT. I still think you can prepare for both but you definitely need to prepare GAMSAT or you may suffer.

Taking a gap year for Medicine?

Would recommend if you're thinking of travelling and don't want to go university.

    Calculation

Hence why percentile is more important. It also depends on who applies to where which will determine the competitiveness of your UMAT score. But most likely than not most people will apply to the same universities.

Puts another perspective on those wanting to do medicine. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-debate/think-medical-school-is-for-you-youre-probably-wrong/article19609445/

    Adv Sci for Postgrad Med?

Depends how hard you want to study for your GAMSAT. GAMSAT is way worse than the UMAT. Adv Sci has better prospects as back up like Adrita said but finding jobs are hard without honours, research or connections. If you're willing to put the effort into studying the GAMSAT yourself then Adv Sci...

All a matter of perspective let her do what she thinks is best.

    UMAT

Social life is uni life. It's fine not to do much in high school. About things to avoid during interview you will find out in due time or you can ask me later.

    UMAT

Given your great insight into everything I find your question a bit strange. Keep what you're doing and you'll be fine. Buy some prep material for UMAT practice and get better. So I'm assuming you're in year 11? Just because you're topping 3 subjects in your school does not mean you should do...

    UMAT

Lol what about me? I think it comes down to your interests. If your interests entails studying for 10hrs a day go for it, if it maintains your interest. Only problem I see is if in the interview they ask for other activities outside of study you may have screwed yourself over in that area...

What uni course to become a specialist?

You basically picked the hardest specialties to get into Dermatology and ENT are among the most competitive. If you think getting into medicine is hard getting into those specialty is 50x harder given the fact that you're competing with brilliant students. Medical science prepares you better for...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

Definitely second this and best of luck! Let me know if you need any help (I do enjoy mentoring). I did not do extensive research and did not have a mentor to warn me about these things. It's hard to say whether I would have changed my mind but dentistry was a possible option given the more...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

^Thank you ninetypercent. Yes you are definitely right with the bottom line. Succeeding in anything is hard but medicine will start to get progressively more difficult as people you're competing with are extremely talented and hard working individuals. To differentiate yourself, you will be...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

Don't get me wrong, I think medicine is an extremely rewarding career and to those patients that you can affect you do feel a great sense of gratification. I am not passionate in some areas which consultants favourably consider to progress your career so therefore, I am thinking of doing...
