Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

My problem is students wanting to do medicine without knowing the some aspects of what is going to happen in the near future. Many students believe what their parents say, job market is fine in medicine you will be guaranteed a job. Yes that rang true 20 years ago but no longer. Like I mentioned...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

It's clear that you know nothing about me. Patients love me and I have great rapport with all my patients. The only downside to medicine for me is the research and need to memorise so much content. Once you already have a job it's easy. The Government increased consultancy places 20 years ago...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

I realised your link is actually for higher education graduates. Australia has a system in place which offers graduate positions for all junior doctors (100% if you're local) for 2 years. After this point in time you're on your own. So of course the rate of employment would be 96%. I would be...

I need background information on Nursing! pls

There are male nurses just the area is mostly dominated by females. I'm going to take a wild guess and say male nurses probably number 10% or less. A nurse's job is more stressful than a regular job however my concept of stress has changed so to me I don't think what they do is stressful. They...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

Comparatively job prospects are better in medicine compared to law but it is getting to the point where quite a few doctors are finding it difficult to find a job in an urban centre without further research/study. If you think medicine is not like climbing the corporate ladder you will be sorely...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

    1. I disagree. Do doctors really want to work on weekends? evening shifts that end at 10pm? on public holidays? Yeh no I've asked many doctors and they don't want to. My friend worked 70+hrs per week for a surgical team because otherwise he would not finish the jobs required for the patients. He...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

I do agree. Even with logical deduction you need a huge wealth of knowledge before you can apply it in great detail in medicine. It sucks how you can't specialise straight away and must undergo such long broad training to eventually end up in a narrow field of expertise unless you become a GP...

People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public schools?

Re: People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public scho Medical problems can lead to cognitive impairment. If you're not interested in something you either have to overcome it by seeing the end goal or pursue another path.

People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public schools?

Re: People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public scho Sounds like a concentration problem to me. If it is something new to you then I would seek some medical tests to see if anything is off whack. It might be because you don't have an interest in what you're...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

I chose to do medicine originally because I found science more easily understandable than commerce. I didn't like the research aspect of science so hence did not pursue that path. Now after getting some life experience I am having second thoughts with my career path. Many people in medicine seem...

JCU entry requirements? Bachelor of Med/Surgery

Not very difficult to find. Just do a google search http://www.jcu.edu.au/apply/undergraduate/JCUDEV_002284.html You need to submit an application to JCU. Three of my last year's students received offers for JCU medicine. UWS only has a threshold for ATAR requirement but UMAT is needed for entry.

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

Interesting responses but I would prefer people who are actually thinking of applying into medicine to comment rather than people who have no inclination to do medicine. I used to like the atmosphere of hospitals until I saw Google offices and went wtf this place is a shit hole. In addition...

Why are people choosing to pursue a career in medicine?

Out of my curiosity, I just want to ask why school leavers are choosing medicine as their future career amongst so many careers out there. I remember when I was in high school, I had no fricken clue. So what are the reasons (yes you can give a list) to why you're choosing medicine? Be honest and...

    UMAT VS Trials

I would think they are equally important but it depends on how much you want to pursue medicine. If you want to pursue medicine or else you will die then you will need a better UMAT score. Considering your ATAR is around 97 UNSW probably won't give you an offer so your chances are UNCLE or UWS...

People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public schools?

Re: People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public scho Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. When I was doing it back in the day I was getting 70-80%+ for all sections. I got so good in S3 I was sometimes getting 90+. Then screwed up S3 in actual UMAT, by...

People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public schools?

Re: People in med programs-have you generally come across any people from public scho There's always post graduate medicine. If you're talking about people trying out for UMAT and hence for med it is much less than 16% probably ~3%. If you're talking about offers given out based on preferences...

    UMAT scores declining in medentry

Percentile grades means you are ranked comparatively to other students. Not sure how the Medentry system works but perhaps you are now competing with the very top batch of students who actually go onto complete all exams whereas, before it was all students completing the exams. To be honest...
