Thanks. We didn't cover error checking in very much detail, now that you post that I do remember reading about checksums somewhere. Out of interest what was your source for your notes? The Davies book doesn't cover that in very much detail.

For info on misadventure you should talk to the head exam supervisor prior to the exam or call your school. The message I posted says that if you can't site the exam you are elidgible, if you can sit the exam it probably is harder to claim, but still possible.

Yeah, but how do they estimate the mark when they don't have anything to scale the subject by? I guess they could use a previous years rank like Adrita suggested, but that seems kind of unfair. (I know at my school it could be a fair bit lower than this year's cohort, but it could vary the...

Yeah I can't think of three error checking methods for data streams though. :(

    i. Data ii. A checksum (also known as a parity bit) compares if the sum of binary digits is odd or even. For example an even parity bit will set to one if the number of bits including the parity bit is even. A CRC uses a more complex algorithm to compute a longer code word, a CRC is better a...

    SDD Marathon 2013

Hey working on your question.... in part 3 do you mean error checking techniques in data streams, or error checking techniques for software solutions? :)

Interpreted is when the code is compiled at run time, line by line. It means you have to distribute source code instead of machine code, but it runs on lots of different platforms. Edit: ninja'd

    SDD Marathon 2013

That's really good. I actually had in mind an answer about being able to run on different hardware and platforms (more flexibility), but yours works well too.

    SDD Marathon 2013

(Treating as 3 marks) Unicode, where characters can be up to 32-bits, as supposed to ASCII's 7-bits, allows for a far greater range of characters to be produced. Due to this greater range it also allows multiple different language's character sets to be represented in a single format. This is...

SMH is reporting that some high schools are being closed due to fires. What does the board do in terms of missed exams if this happens as they can't estimate based on your rank and the rest of your class's results if your entire class doesn't sit the exam. Edit: See below for update posted by...

    What are CPU cores?

It's basically two+ of everything on the same chip, as supposed to hyper threading which is when there is two ALUs but only one CU

General Thoughts: English Advanced Paper 2

Totally wish I'd picked up on the context thing for time and space (mod B), I talked about context but only linked it to the corruption part. I took the question pretty literally and talked about small spaces (Ophelia's Grave) and impatience in individual quotes. I basically linked time to the...

    Wikipedia is a prescribed text...

If you read the syllabus I think it is only the pages on that list (which only mods can edit)

    did i just dun goofed?

Depends on the rest of your essay, if it's good you might lose a may mark. It won't make a huge difference, also depends on your handwriting and if they can tell what era you actually intended

General Thoughts: English Advanced Paper 2

Mod A and C brilliant, 5 pages each Mod B (Hamlet) - 4 and a bit pages, absolutely terrible. Corruption was fine, but time and place...

    Section 1 - Stimulus

The narrator wasn't included, but the sand people included each other. I used "Everyone lives in the dunes" (inclusive language) for one of my examples.

Hearing mixed things about paragraphing, need advice ASAP.

Every paragraph must have a topic sentence. It's up to you whether you merge multiple quotes into one paragraph or not. I usually find two quotes is a good number (per paragraph), but I know others who use more.

Anybody else forget to tick "Tick this box if you have used another writing booklet"?

Re: Anybody else forget to tick "Tick this box if you have used another writing bookl logic, otherwise it would be stupid to have so many ways to confirm you've added an extra booklet
