haha, wow. my friends aren't like that at all; they're basically the same. one of my best friends finished her hsc last year so it's totally fine for me to talk to her about it. as for my other close friends it hasn't changed really.

Thanks for trying to explain it for me :) By three-mark gaps, do you mean that the range to attain 90 might be 83-86 and from then on the gaps narrow? i.e. 87-88=91, 89-90=92, 91-92=93? I think I understand what you mean by the middle mark and the clusters. I need an aligned mark of 94+ in IPT...

So in the case of IPT, there would be a 7-mark jump from 83 to 90? and then it would narrow? EDIT: that makes no sense, because that means they have to fit 16 marks into a 10-mark gap. ugh i've given up understanding hahah, I definitely have a humanities mind.

Yeah, but I worked out that if I scored 91 as my overall HSC IPT mark, it contributes around 84 to my UAI. Pathetic. You need upwards of 95 as your overall HSC mark for it to contribute over 90 scaled points to your UAI. Wish i never took it.

Yeah, but it's not capped like IPT. The maximum IPT can contribute to your UAI is 93, even if you score 100 in the HSC. That means a score of 90 contributes about 82. pathetic scaling. I'd go for Ancient; it isn't capped at least.

yeah i meant the 5+ hrs a night recommendation - totally unnecessary as people work at different levels and capacities. You can't just apply a quantitative figure of success to everyone and expect it to be universal.
