q5 2003 hsc. (the question that was cancelled)

The big problem was in the simplistic way it was intentioned it was a simple application of time dilation to achieve B. The trouble was with a better knowledge that the top students who look at general relativity you obtain D. So it became a question that with a better knowledge you ended up...

meissner effect ... lenzs law? eddy currents?

Its more the property of the superconductor rather than the geometry of the superconductor.

meissner effect ... lenzs law? eddy currents?

Most of what you say is correct, which is why you are better to say analogy to lenz's law. It doesn't just work for cylindrical superconductors, its just those are the cheapest for schools to buy. These hexagonal ones are better but cost more. http://www.coolmagnetman.com/images/sc03.jpg...

    Good Luck to everyone tomorrow

Putting this up while I can, sad to see the server stuffing up a good resource when people need it.

    projectile qs

Yes because all you are doing is adding extra correcct money. Remember the equations are always measuring from your starting position. Not sure what you mean by your firecracker question. The satellite needs to receive a sideways thrust to turn it to its tangential circular velocity.

    JJ Thompson Experiment

The charge mass ratio of an electron is very large, not just relatively. 1.7 x 10 11
  7. H

    projectile qs

It depends on how the question is worded. If unsure make a statement at the end like: ---- m above tower or ---- + 500m above ground

could someone please help with this question?

    Slope=change in momentum/time=Force The maximum slope between 6 and 16s is about 4900N or 5g. Momentum=mv Max momentum = 72000 Ns so v=72000/100=720m/s
  9. H

    Some help plz.

You need to remember it is the change in flux, not the amount of flux. At A it quickly goes from A to amount. At B there is a change but only a small amount. Think of your sin curve and the graph is steepest when at A, and the slope represents the change in flux.

    Physics equations

There are also the defintion equations like: q=It W=qV
  11. H

meissner effect ... lenzs law? eddy currents?

The Meissner effect is analgous to Lenz's Law rather than being exactly the same. It is a property of a superconductor to prevent a magnetic field entering, so the currents are set up in the superconductor. The reason the currents do not heat up the superconductor is because of how they travel...

    HSC Research Proect-Space

I was assuming someone doing this assigment now was in 2008 HSC. von Braun is a lot easier to answer: Main scientist behind the German V rockets that used gyroscopes and liquid fuels. There is debate how much of this work was based on Goddards and how much was done independently. End of the...

    Physics equations

Third last one is for the work function in Photoelectric effect. Second is the Color Index in Astrophysics. Not sure about the last one. You could add the current in the transformer reaction. Also remember how to make ratios like r13/r23=T12/T12

    HSC Research Proect-Space

Esnault Pelterie is in the Dot Points as one of the rocket scientists. My information is at school, will try to put something up on Monday.

raw marks for a band 6?

Totally irrelevant as the system changed in 2000. Before that the mean and SD was kept the same each year in each subject.

    Dot point books

The Dor Point books are a series that covers questiond for all the content and some of the skill dot points in the syllabus. They are useful as a mechanism for remembering the dotpoint and most questions are similar to the simple HSC style questions but are not a substitue for real HSC stlye...

    How to answer long Qs..

The format is not a problem. Tables and diagrams are encouraged. They are not after essays. The most important thnig is you address all parts of the question, including the links between the sections.
  18. H

    How many significant figures?

You are not going to be penalised multiple times for significant figures. They may decide to deduct in one question but it will not worry about it for most questions.
  19. H

    Format of exam?

If you run out of room, then you will be given an extra booklet and you write the question number on the front and it is collated with the original paper. MAke sure you write see extra book to ensure the marker sees it.
  20. H

    Format of exam?

The multiple choice you normally can bring out and the formula sheet. The electives you normally can but are known to be refused. The rest of the paper you answer on the question sheet. The multiple choice are answered on a machine marked single sheet. The elective is answered in a booklet.
