    answers ;)

1 looks right. 2 Could mean a number of things but in order of most likely: Sound waves are attenuated by the material they are passing through, so the signal will be weaker the more material it passes through. Reflective surfaces are not always perpindicular to the signal wave, so the reflected...

    Generators

Slip rings are just acting as an electric contacts with the brushes, enabling the generator to rotate. The direction of the current changes each 180 degrees because the orientation of the coil changes, so the direction of the flux reverses with respect to the coil. As the coil rotates, the...

    Physics exam was today!

Greg provides his powerpoints for free to other teachers at markinmg and other inservices.

    Very basic projectile motion help

Rubbish Riviet, any correct method is accepted. That is the maths method, the formulas in the HSC data sheet, traditional formulas using suvat or the rote learnt formulas based on the assumption of flat ground if appropriate. That is why the 4 mark question in 2004 was a joke. A student who...

    question

Its there because there was a similar question in last years HSC that was worth 6 marks. It is part of the skills section, 9.1. Make sure you read through that section. Guess at marking. Use a variety of sources. Web, text books etc. Summarise data from the variety of sources and compare...

    *help*...

A cluster is a group of stars of the same age. When you plot them on the H-R diagram, you are plotting a group of same age stars. Stars on the top left of the Main Sequence are larger and have shorte lifes, so they use up their H first and leave the main sequence first and head towards the Red...

Will we be asked to use formulas not on the forumal sheet?

They also may provide formulas in the questions and ask you to apply them. You may use other valid formulas if you remember them. There are some formulas not on the formula sheet that are either derived, eg. W=qED Or there are equations based on definitions in dot points. EG Formula for...

    Need help understanding AC currents

Alternating current means the current will flow in one direction and then the opposite direction. This change occurs 50 times a second. For a transformer to work there needs to be a change in magnetic flux. The easiest way to change a flux is to increase or decrease the current, which is...

    Scaling between schools

Moderation of assessments is done on a school basid but there is no bias to one type of school.

    Cooper Pairs

The distortion that is attracting the second in the cooper pair is not at the same physical position as the first. The distortion (phonon) vibrates through the lattice causing the attraction of the second electron that may be a number of atoms away.

    A little question~

Its Force time graph not velocity time.

Current and potential difference: changes in relation to a resistor

Current is the amount of charge passing per second. Yes it stays the same as it passes through a resistor. Voltage or Potential difference is the amount of energy per unit charge. It does not change the number of electrons. So when an electron goes through a resistor, its energy level drops.

    P and N-type semiconductors

They are not positive at all, there are holes in the lattice, where electrons would normally be. It is these wholes that move. The semiconductor is still neutral.

    Misadventure/Marks

Sadly the BOS misadventure form states that an ongoing illness like Glandular Fever is not enough for a misdaventure claim. You can only make claims for individual tasks if it flares up at this time. Otherwise it would be looking at going the pathways or special provisions track. Good luck

    Validity and Reliability

Yep my error there, will go back and fix that.
  18. H

    Validity and Reliability

Controls fit into validity, independent and dependent don't really fit into either. However if what you measure isn't really your independent or independent variable then your experiment won't be valid. At HSC level you should normally have one independent variable so you can validly check that...

Is a hypothesis meant to have justification?

An hypothesis is suppose to based on observations. Normally it is just a statement and it is assumed the justification is in the question but somewhere in a report there should be a justification.

    Trial HSC Timetable

I haven't seen it occur with the CSSA paper but have come across this occuring with the Independent paper.
