How did you get a band 5 or 6 in Physics?

Some great advice in this thread! Only thing which I would add is to ensure that you understand how content from different topics/areas can actually relate to each other. Recently they really seem to be focusing on this multiple-outcome type question and I think this will continue. If you have...

What is difficult in Preliminary Chemistry?

So, I am teaching Preliminary Chemistry for the first time this year.. What did you guys find most difficult? (be it content, concepts, calculations, practicals etc..) I would like to make sure that I address the harder things adequately during the next three terms and it would be awesome...

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 What would you guys say if I told you the ball does hit the net xD Sorry to the person who PM'd me their answer and I said it looked good! I just made up the numbers and hadnt checked the answer, just checked it now and it does hit the net! There is a fundamental...

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 Dont forget about my question! xD Prove it! Never ever pull numbers out of thin air, even if you know them to be true (unless they are on data sheet ofc)

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 Yep, 100%. I dont mean the final answer (as that reading would be in grams), but rather the original reading of 8.154g needs to be converted to kg when you determine Weight, should come out to be 0.0799N, then continue your approach.

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 Ok, couldn't wait til tomorrow. Not heaps hard, but tricky. New Question: Whilst playing tennis, John serves a ball with a velocity of 45ms-1 at an angle of 6.5degrees below the horizontal. The height of the ball as it leaves his racquet is 2.45m above the...

kiwi703's raw marks - english, physics and economics

Solid Physics mark! U weren't far off a state ranking, only 40 people in the state got 97+ I wonder what my state ranking student, who got 99, got as a raw mark, must have been 98

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 Say 30degrees above horizontal as 'to/from the horizontal' could mean either above or below. Your value seems correct! The quicker way of doing it would be to realise that the centripetal force is being provided by gravity, so you can use Newtons Law of...

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 I would dare say that you would lose marks, as st00pid as it may be. HSC marking schemes often state 'substitute values into appropriate equations' -- appropriate equations refer to those on your formula sheet or those derived from equations in the formula sheet...

Official BOS Mathematics Seminar: "How to solve problems."

Stick around afterwards for a mini-seminar concerning how to lift yourself from Band 5 into Band 6 in Physics! In Physics, the little things really do matter. You need to convince the HSC judges that you are Band 6 material and I will give you some hints and tips on things that they look for...

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 It says velocity, so you would need to add in the angle :) Make sure that you only use physics equations to get the answer and don't use mathematics equations (I.e., don't use Range = (u^2sin(2@))/g) New Question: Determine the centripetal force experienced by...

    Another Length Contraction Question

Rather than just using random numbers, you could solve by saying that lv = 0.85lo, then again solve algebraically (essentially the same approach ass mentioned above, but just more complete)
