    How are CSSA trials marked?

This years CSSA physics paper actually had people OUTSIDE of the catholic sector involved (a teacher from a public school in NW Sydney was part of setting the paper, as was a person from the Australian Institute of Physics) I am actually attending an inservice next week with other teachers...

PRELIM PHYS- why do we connect voltmeters in parallel?

FIRST THING YOU HAVE EVER SAID THAT IS INCORRECT!!! If you connect a voltmeter in series with a circuit, the reading on the voltmeter will be ~the circuit voltage (assuming Rvoltmeter >> Rcircuit)

    Explaining Meissner Effect

Ahhhh yes... Meissner and Lenz... I have seen trial papers where marking guidelines say that you MUST talk about Induction with the Meissner Effect :\ They are quite different things! Lenz arises due to rate of change of flux, Current loops in the Meissner effect arise due to flux in general...

    Significant figures?

There would not be too much subjectivity though as the marking groups are constantly monitored, samples taken and checked etc.. As strawberrye says, if you get someone who knows what they are doing to mark your stuff and give feedback you will pick up pretty quickly what you need to do :)

    Significant figures?

Yes, but marking criteria can also be subjective to a degree 'demonstrates coherence and logical progression' 'demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding' 'cause and effect of at least one significant positive effect' All of this is from one question from the 2011 HSC -- some marking...

    Significant figures?

No, not true. your teacher may take marks off you for incorrect sig figs, in the HSC they dont take marks off you, but if you are expecting to be a Band 6 student, correct sig figs is something they expect of a Band 6 student, so you should do it :)
  13. Fizzy_Cyst

    Significant figures?

^^ Yep, that would be 4 sig. figs. I highly doubt that you would ever see 500. anywhere, lols
  14. Fizzy_Cyst

    Significant figures?

500 is one sig fig. 500 followed by a decimal point (500.) is 3 sig fig. I would expect an answer to one sig fig for that question
