Are most uni courses 3 or 4 years?

Masters is a post-graduate degree that is separate. Honours is an extra year you have to qualify for at the end of your undergraduate degree. You can do them by coursework or research. And yes. More qualifications, so... benefit is clear.

    Should English be compulsory??

If you apply the same logic to maths, you miss the point. Point of mathematics at school, I think, is to be a tool for clarity of thought, logic, and problem solving. It's not so you can learn lovely properties about ellipses, or angles in circles, or how to solve certain equations, etc.

    Which is worth more?

You really shouldn't determine what subjects to drop based on an estimate of how you think you'll go, which is scaled - which is something you have no control over.

Can you highlight stuff during reading time?

Reading time is reading time. In reading time, the only thing you really should be doing is reading the paper, looking around the room nondescriptly to see if others are freaking out, and if so, praying to your God or equivalent deity to lessen the pain of the next two or three hours.

    Mathematics Notes Survey.

Motivation for topics would be nice. I find them interesting, and others might stop their inane "omg we're never going to use this in life - no one will ever use this in life".

    Subject advice

Well, if you dropped - you'd have 10 units. How are you going in those? Because if you say "oh yeah btw, coming dead last in chemistry" - then suddenly your Chemistry mark is going to count to your ATAR. And your reason for dropping is partially so you can study. Are you sure you'd use the...

    Timeframe?

Yes, research should be all year round, was the advice I got. But when it comes to say... July, so a month before it's due - it's no real use to pick up another book and read that, unless you can finish it, implement new ideas and then refine them. Though research should start from Day 1 too...

How does high school maths compare to university maths?

First year uni? You'll just revise some of 3u and 4u, the relevant stuff. For instance, you'll relearn integration, complex numbers, etc. You'll be introduced into matrices and linear maps. More rigourous definitions for things like limits and the like, so yes - there is an emphasis on proof and...

Well, if everyone else did comparatively worse - then of course. I fought my way from mid-table in English to second.

    Assumed knowledge

My counter question is why you're going to spend holidays doing something you can learn at no real extra cost right now? General maths is simply not enough for uni level studies - you learn pretty much nothing of use. So you'd be wasting your time there.
