1. Make your own notes. And do lots and lots of questions. Do all your homework, and later on re-do those questions. And then do all the past papers you can get your hands on.

Find what works for you. Personally, I preferred setting aside hours per day and with goal-oriented study sessions. So, for example: "By the end of this week, I want to have finished Section 2 of this course - looking at the material and doing all the questions".

Ask your teacher to read over your essays. They should welcome your effort and desire to do better.
