    HS > Uni > Work

Because they are spoonfed in High School in order to do well in the HSC. Thinking for yourself and being self-motivated (that you need to do & be in uni) isn't in their bag of tricks. Because they suddenly learn what the uni bar is for and realise that all work and no play makes Johnny a dull...

    Criminology

Griffith University’s Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, offered through Open Universities Australia, is a broad-based social science degree examining crime, the criminal justice system and related social issues. It is a multidisciplinary degree with study focusing on psychology...

    absolutely bored of studies..

Mathsisweird, I realise you are talking about TAFE and they have different systems, but if anyone is thinking of deferring/taking a leave of absence from uni, check the guidelines first as many uni's don't allow you to enrol anywhere else during your time off.

Special Education - how to do while working in victoria

UNE has a new Bachelor of Special Education/Bachelor of Disabilities Studies via distance. Res Schools would be in Armidale NSW, but don't know how often. Kicking myself I didn't find out about this one earlier.

    Advice please! Graduate this year?

Why not spend the next year doing a postgrad cert or diploma.... Linguistics, Library Studies, Training & Development (much more fun than teaching), Town Planning, Archeology, Theatre Studies, Public Relations, Human Resources etc. It'll give you the edge above other Arts grads, but means you...

B arts/psychology means UNEMPLOYMENT, true or false?

Have you looked much into Social Work? To call yourself an actual social worker, there are strict requirements... a 3 year degree with a major in sociology usually doesn't cut it. From Aust Assoc of Social Workers http://www.aasw.asn.au/becomeamember/becomingasw/eligible.htm ... A...

tafe to 2nd year of uni?

The front office people really should have told you that a fee exemption (previously free, now $50) was available to you. From http://www.tafensw.edu.au/about/money.htm#exemptions ... "Concessions Students who receive a Commonwealth benefit or allowance (see list below) are eligible to...

tafe to 2nd year of uni?

4K for a diploma? Wangle it so you can get Youth Allowance/Austudy, then it is only $50 a year plus textbooks and maybe a small resource charge depending on the campus. Even if you only qualify for the first few weeks of TAFE, then start earning some $ to no longer qualify for Youth...

tafe to 2nd year of uni?

CSU would have given you a year off, possibly 1.5 years (from experience of transferring into it).... "As CSU is a participant in the AVCC National Credit Transfer Schemes, TAFE students who hold a Diploma (formerly Associate Diploma) will be granted a minimum of 33% credit in a related three...

    2nd semester

No, you can't 'defer' like at uni. Only in some circumstances do they allow refunds (see below). If there is a 2nd semester intake (ask the head teacher) then you should be able to reapply (if it is an application course), but you would have to pay for another concession fee (e.g. $50 if on...

    non-class periods storage

The cottages at Wagga had a space in the kitchen for each person that was lockable and so was fine to keep locked during res school times (holidays)... so your kitchen stuff could stay but I had to lug everything else back and forth. Sorry, don't know about Orange.

Bachelor of Special Education (Primary)/Bachelor of Disability Studies

Does anyone at UNE know anything about this distance course? It's new, so I couldn't google anything beyond basic UNE course info page. Any further info would be much appreciated.

    Ag science

Most of USyd's Ag courses got transfered to CSU when they took over USyd's Orange campus, but they still offer a little bit at the city campus.

is TAFE a social desert for a 16/17 year old?

First bit of an IT course is either really boring or really fun because many people will already have self-taught skills but not have the proof in order to get recognition for it. TAFE is all about ticking boxes that you are competent at the tasks at hand, so some time is spent at the start...

    questions that need answers

If you want to do accounting... you can start to do some subjects in Uni of South Australia's Bachelor of Accounting degree (no entry requirements if you enter through Open Uni Aust) then see if you can transfer to your uni of choice after, say, first year. Spend your time doing what you want to...

    is ag dead??

I'm an ex-Rusian, after many years post-HSC I am going back to my roots to do Horticulture in 2008 :) Once it is in your blood, hard to get out, even for those of us who went on to be doctors, lawyers, accountants etc. They still remember hilling the potatoes in the ag plots, treating the sheep...

    internal transfers

At CSU I changed courses 4 times. Filled out a form, if there were spaces in the new course and my grades were ok, they didn't mind.

    Ag science

Plus UNE and CSU offer some of their courses by distance, which means that if you are an internal student you can (usually, but don't quote me) choose a subject by distance (they send you out the study notes) if you don't like the scheduling of that particular class, i.e. clashes with when the...

    Real Estate

From memory, it is a cert IV level course... you can do it via OTEN (TAFE by distance). Look at Real Estate Institute of Australia www.reiaustralia.com.au or of NSW www.reinsw.com.au ...also maybe Dept of Fair Trading as I think they are the ones that hand out the licences.

    Hsc At Tafe?

Lower course?? How much more impressive would it be for the uni of your choice if you have done first year in a Bachelor of Commerce (Commercial Law) from Curtin University (through Open Uni) than if you re-did HSC to get a pretty number? The reason I push this point is that the HSC is not an...
