    Encore nominations

Wow- very nice- congrats :) Three people from my school got encore. How many people get it state wide?

    Restrictions on domain

Hey guys, For this question, obviously f(x) is undefined at x=-2 and when you work out the inverse function, it ends up being f(x)=2x/(1-x) which is undefined at x=1. So when you write the domain for part vi), is the domain all real x except x=1 or all real x except x=1,-2 as -2 isn't defined...

    estimate please :)

Well assuming your predictions for the aligned marks are accurate, then you can plug those in directly to an ATAR calc which gives around 99.75. Tbh though, I'd challenge some of those mark predictions- 97 in modern is a state rank iirc, 96 is bio is pretty close to state rank and I'm assuming...

Swizzle's Love Thread - Post anonymous messages to your secret crush

No lol- I had never heard of the game until Wed. I think it was Carrot or something but not really sure tbh...

    Past Papers?

Maths is pretty much just papers. Not sure about 2U or 3U but for for 4U, you could do all the HSC papers from the 80's onwards if you wanted to because the syllabus is essentially unchanged. Defs do all of the recent ones because school trial papers are easier than HSC so its good to practice...

(Finalised) Official BOS Mathematics Trial Examinations.

See haha I'm legit the master of working out questions the long way :(... Need to work on that- luckily I can generally do maths quickly so time isn't an issue normally.

(Finalised) Official BOS Mathematics Trial Examinations.

Umm it takes me ages to latex so I'll just run through my working. 1) is fairly straightforward- just use Pythag and trig in the triangle and its done. 2) First I differentiated the result in 1) to find d(theta)/dx. Now we have to find dx/dt (which is the velocity). But dx/dt=dx/d(theta) times...

Just did that circle/simple harmonic one :) How many scrap questions do you have BTW lol? (not that I'm complaining- I love these questions)

I heard that it's possible for assesment ranks to jump after HSC results

How would your assessment mark be 2? The only possible way this could happen is if you were ranked last and one guy answered one multiple choice question in a whole paper... I get what you're saying but I don't think they can change assessment ranks. Sometimes they treat people as outliers if...

    Cubic Graphs

When the leading coefficient is negative. For example, consider f(x)=-x^3+6x^2-2x+6. Basically, the curve starts from below the x axis not above it like in a positive cubic (because the limit x-> infinity is negative infinity)

(Finalised) Official BOS Mathematics Trial Examinations.

Crap. Yes. Very nice. I didn't think of that- that's heaps neat (and WAY easier than what I did). Lol I was trying to get that thing with the k as the hypotenuse but the only way I could think of was creating a circle with radius k (which is bigger than the unit circle) but that got messy too...

If the inclined angle is theta, how does sin(theta)=1/k? Isn't tan(theta) equal to 1/k because k is the length of the adjacent side not the hypotenuse?

Fuark Carrot, I think I finally got that complex question... I'm going to get owned b ythis test (though the mechanics one I thought was way easier even though it was more marks). I would have missed something that made the complex easy I think- could you outline the method you used for this...

Oh ok. I'll try the question now (inb4 I don't get it even though its 'straightforward lol)

(Finalised) Official BOS Mathematics Trial Examinations.

I don't get why arg (z+k) has to be greater than zero. Lets say z is 0.5-0.5i which has modulus 0.5 which is less than one which is what the restriction requires. Obviously though the arg of z is less than zero (being -pi/4 in this case). So when k is any real number, z+k will always remain...

    ATAR Estimate

Yeah I'm pretty confident that those ranks would give 90+. Its hard to tell with school's that are ranked like yours but yeah, I'd say you get it
  19. deswa1

    MX1 and MX2 units

Yeah for ranks write out of how many. So 3/16 instead of 3 imo- though say if you were 3/4 then writing 3 would look a lot better so maybe lol... And yep- that's what I did
  20. deswa1

    MX1 and MX2 units

I wrote that they were each 2 units and for the marks, I put what they were out of. So say I got 65 in 3U, I'd write 65/70. Just writing 65 looks as though its out of 100 and that's way less impressive etc.
