Finance + Economics good to major in ? vs. Fi + Acc

Finance isn't the place to be in right now...or so they say. If you are thinking of doing investment banking alot of the core principles of this involve first year accounting

    unsw or usyd?

Most units should be transferable as most unis are Group of Eight unis. For me going from UWA to UNSW I would have to do their science research unit and a bit of other shit and they wont count my computing i think.

    Questions/Uncertainty Reagrding Undergraduate Economics Courses

The UNSW GE units consider to be on par with the units that UWA offers over summer to anyone. My problem with it is I am looking at doing advanced mathematics (quantitative finance) which involves very intensive units. The units that are offered through GE; I would call 'arts units' or...

    Commerce at UNSW

I agree with Vaga and Jase. In microeconomics generally the person who does the best in the first year has never done economics before says the lecturer at UWA.

    Economics Career Help?

Thats good enough now you just have to bear the first microeconomics and macroeconomics units at uni which are pretty much the same as year 11 and 12.

    BCommerce vs BCommerce/BArt

Aslong as you don't major in something crap I would consider the arts degree. Looking up the units is a must.

    Questions/Uncertainty Reagrding Undergraduate Economics Courses

There is alot of stuff you could do that will get you a job, the thinking that coming from a prestigous university makes you a strong worker is the kind of shit that has fucked up the economy. HOWEVER it is important to consider which university a company comes to first when they want interns...

    General Education

Not as bad as uni of melbourne i'll give you that. I've contacted multiple uni of melbourne staff and the only reply I got was from talking to a lecturer directly through his own personal forum.

forgot about usyd...shit probably looks like usyd would be better but the handbook is laid out so crap, the degrees look really flexible or something S:

    Which is the better course?

I will say UWA on these grounds: Snobbyness and prestige of the university in general A science degree sounds like 10x better than an arts degree Arts 'non-compsuluary' units are generally useless

Does it matter where a degree comes from ?

If you want to do anything post graduate - Yes If you want a high tier job (investment banking etc.)- Yes Really depends on the course, in Western Australia for example no engineering firms would hire people from ECU or tafe. They might prefer Murdoch/Curtin since they are more practical but...

    General Education

I have sent a few emails around though the basic jist is they don't give a shit untill I have formally applied (which requires this years uni marks), been accepted into the course and then been invited into quantitative finance by the dean. EDIT: I really hope I don't have to do any shit like...

    General Education

Hi, I'm looking at transfering into B.Sc Advanced mathematics (quant finance) @ UNSW next year from Comm, Comp Sci & Maths @ UWA. Will I be able to count my computer science units i've completed at UWA as general education or will they be counted towards electives? I've had a look at the...

    Economics Career Help?

Microeconomics: Prices & Markets is the economics unit I currently do at UWA. It is extremely boring (up to this stage anyway) and basically covers the year 11 economic syllabus in half the time, adding minute information. In respect to the choice between economics and finance I have these...

is Actuarial Studies really that boring??

Quant finance is more mathematical and pays higher than actuarial studies. However quant finance is alot less job security. I think it is worth noticing that quant finance requires alot more experience and a masters in mathematics degree at the lest (or so they say.)

    Double degree vs UMelb model

B.Eng & B.Sc would be more broad, you could do something like electrical engineering and statistics. Masters of Engineering means you are a better engineer, I'm not sure about engineering but there is a large difference in wages between B.Sc & M.Sc in mathematics

Which degree is of more worth for quant analyst job?

Worth the read. "A quant who cannot code C++ is like an arts student who can't get a root" - Some blog of a quant headhunter http://www.markjoshi.com/books/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=8&sid=1bf4e41e9c4f0a5867a9633e23a7424b will probably help you more

Is the HSC really that important?

Not important I'dve rather done a language and got 80 then do 2 maths 2 science english econs and have gotten 90.
