    For q1, using sum and product of roots you can find a+b and ab. (a+b)^3 = a^3+3a^2b+3ab^2 +b^3 = a^3+b^3 +3ab(a+b) I think you can work it out from there.

    Yes, the employment and recruitment system at DET is completely dysfunctional. I wish more teachers would vote with their feet, though, and find alternate employment - either at a non-DET school or outside teaching. Then they would be forced to DO something about the way DET is run.

    I went to Japan on exchange for a year a long, long time ago. It didn't cost me a cent: I had a scholarship that basically covered everything - airfares, tuition, living expenses. I'd recommend it if you get the opportunity.
