There's such a big difference because all the people with high UAI's don't have a clue how cutoffs work and just opt for the higher one automatically assuming it's the better course.

They're unlikely to let you if you failed a subject. 25th of July for you if you're doing maths this semester. If not - 26th.

I've heard from another faculty that they come out no later than Week 2. I'm assuming it'll be similar for all faculties too. Uni starts tomorrow for the vast majority. I start on Tuesday though, because I'm not doing maths this semester :D

I believe it does count to your WAM. It can be easier to get high marks if you choose the right subject, e.g. I hear PE fitness is pretty easy and interesting.

I think it's because of two reasons. 1. People with higher UAIs don't want to waste their UAI on a 78-80UAI course. That means USYD always gets all the smarter people, and UNSW always gets all the not so intelligent people. And this trend will always continue until something happens, like an...

Good move by UNSW IMO. Not only does it tempt people with higher UAIs to join the uni, but it also gets rid of people that are only in the course because they couldn't make it into anything else.
