would you let someone borrow your book?

only with the knowlege that I'm unlikely to get it back. I do have one friend I regularly trade with, and I know she'll give them back. But all other books I've lent i've never gotten back. So i still lend, but only if i'm prepared to lose the book forever / have to buy another copy.

    Dragon Books?

ditto about Robin Hobb. I read Dragonmaster by Chris Bunch. It was about using dragons for aerial combat, and was written in a very straight-to-the-point manner. Not a bad read - different to most dragon books because the dragons weren't written as superior to humans like they normally are.

    Obernewtyn *spoilers*

if its not Ariel then it will be way out of left field! Surely its Ariel.... Ooh and I'm a fan of Damien too. such a sweetie!

    What are you currently Reading?

have you read the ship series by Robin Hobb? (Ship of Magic, Ship of Destiny... or something along those lines). It takes a bit of getting into but it leads into her new series - The Drogon Keepers, and it (debatably) has a few characters from Assasins Apprentice / tawny man in it too. I...

    Obernewtyn *spoilers*

Ariel? are you crazy? I'm hanging to see what happens with Matthew, I think hes' probably my favourite. My friend just got me hooked on the obernewtyn books but didn't tell me the series wasn't finished!!! Gah! Meanwhile if you liked Obernewtyn you'd probably like Robin Hobb - The Assasins...

    I need to read something.

i'm working my way through the top 100 from the bookshop (dymocks? maybe angus and robertson). I'm currently on Raymond Feists "Magician", and surprisingly I'm enjoying it immensely. (although given that its a best seller I guess its not that surprising. ) Maybe try to find a similar list and...

    Animal and Veterinary Bioscience.

Oh - and in terms of workload, approx 25-30 contact hours per week and probably the same again in at home study (preparation for pracs, Tutorial assignments, group work, studying for exams, assignments etc). I worked weekends (approx 10 hours per week) while studying so you can do it, but don't...

    Animal and Veterinary Bioscience.

I did first year animal sci 6 years ago (I know... it seems so long). We had to do chem in first year and also Biometry (kind of maths x statistics). It would be possible to do Chem without having done it in high school but it would be hard - a bridging course would take the pressure off. I...

    BVeterinaryScience (USYD)

Yes. You will still need to sit the STAT (do it early in the year so that if you do badly you can sit it again later in the year). and you'll need to do a comittment to vet science statement showing all relevant work experience / membership of organisations / previous studies etc. your GPA...

Reflections of a 4th yr pharm student--pls read if you're considering pharm

if you graduate from pharm and don't like it because its boring, then it will be a good job to keep the money coming in while you do postgrad study. you can only try it! I do a fair bit of Pharmacy type work in my job (although I get to prescibe and dispense... pill counting is such fun...

    Were you stuck?

I did my entire degree, worked for a year, decided it wasn''t really all that great and now i'm doing a masters in something unrelated, while I continue to work in the area of my first degree. If it takes you a year or two to decide what you like, isn't that better than spending 40 years (or...

    Might be a stupid question..

i had a friend who did all the sciences in high school and then did forensic science and worked for a year as a forensic scientist and absolutely hated it. she said it was all lab work, very little field work and the field work she did do was either very gruesome (rarely), or incredibly detailed...

    animal science help!

I think you'll spend most of 1st year doing bio, chem, physics and maths, with possibly one degree-specific subject. None of these will help you with field experience. the only way to get it is to do it. I would start as early as possible because then a) you know its definately what you want...

    help please!

yeah USyd would be good for research. if you want to care for wildlife, join WIRES or Sydney metropolitan wildlife. And start volunteering at the zoo - its hard to get in otherwise.

People's reactions when you say "I study Psychology"

i've heard it said (and this is not necessarily my personal belief) that Psychologists only become psychologists because they have issues themseves. So maybe thats why - people are wondering what your 'issue" is. But surely everyone has "issues" of one sort or another, no-one is perfect.

    animal science help!

and if you want to work in conservation / zoos, start doing volunteer work now and make yourself known, its a competitive area. For some ideas, try volunteering at wildlife parks (Taronga, Sydney wildlife world, Symbion wildlife park, featherdale etc), doing work experience at various places...

    Snobberry at university

I think you can find likeminded people in any degree at any University. Of the good friends I have from uni, some are from the northern beaches and eastern suburbs, some from Western and South Western Sydney, some from rural areas and interstate. And all are different ages, and some come from...

    help please!

you'll probably get more hands on animal experience at CSU - particularly as more of the intake is rural students from rural background who you can learn a lot from if you're a city slicker (like myself!). The course at USyd is more geared towards research, and thus is not as respected by...

    i hate this!

Relax. Try something generalist like combined arts / education. that way you can try a bit of this and a bit of that and see what you like. Once you've started something, you can chop and change and get credit for prior studies. Animal science is a difficult degree with a lot of general...
