I've done like 5 subjects externally and never needed permission. Didn't need to contact the student centre or course advisor and all my subjects have been given credit (ie: marks and on transcript).

Why didn't you do work experience throughout your degree? The uni offers programs and insurance for work experience, its all over the careers website :rolleyes: Takes 2 seconds of your time to find. And before you whinge about not having enough time, I had to do 400 hours of work placement...
