If your doing good at maths in year 10 there is only 1 reason for you not to do ext maths and that is a subject clash, otherwise go for it especially if your top in your class (i hope that is an adv class not intermediate;)) its not that much harder and 2u is incredibly easy in comparison...

Having a completely awful teacher would definately affect your marks negatively as you would have to do extra work and also would not have the resource of a teacher who can answer all your questions. But IMO this wont cause you to fail the HSC, just bring your marks down a little
