Barack Obama - 44th President of the USA

thanks trefoil - wow, i'm surprised he won nevada and pennsylvania so overwhelmingly. i was expecting margins like those for florida and ohio. that's massive. edit: also, isn't missouri the swing state that generally predicts the election? i guess either it didn't swing or it was just plain...

just out of curiousity (i've searched the net and nothing seemed current), can anyone who watched the coverage tell me which swing states obama won? also, yay :D

Japanese woman faces jail over online 'murder'

damn. at first i thought this meant that someone developed an instrument allowing me to stab people through my computer screen. how disappointing.

    twilight series

lol, no, that's what editors are for. the 'badly-written' comments mean that meyer spends more time developing edward as dazzlingly gorgeous (sparkly, as a matter of fact) than she does developing him into a realistic character ;) lots of people say they can relate to the character of bella, i'm...

    Missing a source

its part of all the questions with sources... they all say 'refer to source blah blah and your own knowledge'.

    General Thoughts - Ancient History

yeah, that's foreign policy. i wrote about the same things. i don't see how it was difficult... building policy for 15 marks on the other hand, would have been hard.

    Section II - Societies

yeah, that's kind of what i thought when i wrote about them. if you look at the marking criteria for the 2006 question, it basically says better responses tackled the idea in a wider sense, covering helot and perioikoi women as well as spartiate wives. however, to get full marks the most...

    Missing a source

yeah, my teachers said this too. they were a bit harsh, if we didn't talk about the source we could only get half of the total marks because technically you're not answering the question. but don't worry OP, i'm sure they're not that bad in the HSC. positive marking.

    SPARTA- Lycurgus question?

i was like 'oh, the question asks about the significance of his reforms, not about him' so i didn't even write about the conflict of his existence. stupid! i even had a source from Plutarch i could have included about that... gah. i mostly talked about the rhetra and system of government, how...

    Section II - Societies

yeah, that's basically what i said too, except i didn't mention anything about religion. i also said iron for the natural resource part. i meant to write molluscs, but wrote shellfish instead... hopefully they know what i meant.

    Ancient History exam too long?

people in my year wrote up until the last minute the top 3 people were actually there for ages after the exam, writing their student numbers on every page of their million booklets. personally i finished with about 45 minutes to spare, no stops in between questions. i don't see what the...

epic win, except for Lycurgus reforms in sparta. was an awesome exam, and now i'm FINISHED!

    Section II - Societies

i studied sparta. this was probably my worst section, which is a surprise because in the trial it was my best. i really didn't think they'd ask women, because they asked it two years ago (for 10 marks)... but i knew their role and remembered quotes. i also wrote about perioikoi and helot...

    Section IV - Historical Periods

I did Egypt, Unification to the First Intermediate Period it was awesome. i was so worried for this one, but one question was our assessment task from earlier this year, we had to do a 5000 word essay so i remembered heaps of examples of features, names of kings, quotes of historians and what...
