    AEC Scrutiny Assistant

As far as I know the employment offers are sent maybe two weeks or so before the election. The hours do depend on the polling place - you're contracted to work there the whole night as far as I know, so at busy city polling places that can go close to midnight. Also I'm not sure but I think you...

    AEC Scrutiny Assistant

I looked into it last year and it's something like ~$80 or so for the whole night. You apply online or print the EOI form. And no, you can't do any other jobs - the Commonwealth Electoral Act specifically requires that all other election officials be over 18.

    ANU Chatter Thread

Re: ANU 2011 Semester 1 Chatter Thread The official fares have been released: http://www.transport.act.gov.au/myway/fares.html - same as Faresaver 10s. On a completely unrelated matter: who's all psyched up for Monday?

    Moving to NSW for UNI....

That's the case for provisional drivers. For L-platers though, you are usually bound by the restrictions of the state you're driving in as well. It's a matter of some precise wording in each state's version of the Road Rules. I have my college address at ANU for my licence, and my home...

    Moving to NSW for UNI....

It is legal to do that, as long as you can demonstrate you have an intention to return home to live. My permanent address for many purposes is still in NSW even though I spend most of my year in the ACT. I'm not sure about the P plates, but the ACT RTA advises us that ACT P platers can drive to...

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can advise them of your new status and have remaining fees put on HECS.

    Location of ASIO

I'm having a look. A search through some NAA records seems to indicate that the 1950s Melbourne mailing address was: "D" Branch, Attorney-General's Department, G.P.O. Box 5219 BB, MELBOURNE. But that doesn't say much about the physical location. (Perhaps they were co-located with Melbourne AGD?)...

    ANU Chatter Thread

Re: ANU 2011 Semester 1 Chatter Thread The poster is wrong, at least if the trial period fares are anything to go by. They charge the same fare as the Faresaver 10, and maximum daily fare is capped at the current cost of a daily ticket.

Is it true you can't have a concession card if you are working?

It is indeed true, there are eligibility requirements on obtaining concessions. It's ironic because the students who are poorest and thus most need the concession are the ones who also need jobs to pay for things generally.

    ANU Chatter Thread

Re: ANU 2011 Semester 1 Chatter Thread Go to newsagent or similar shop. Buy ACTION Concession Faresaver 10, $12.60. Enjoy $1.26 bus rides and free transfers within 90 minutes. Or eventually (hopefully this month or next), buy a MyWay card for $20, set up autoloading, and enjoy very cheap...

Travelling to sydney airport to work.

Don't blame CityRail - the airport stations are owned by Airport Link (private company). CityRail only gets the standard fare that they normally charge, Airport Link takes the rest of it (the Gate Pass). The airport website has http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/SACL/Staff-Car-Parking.html but it...

    ANU Chatter Thread

Re: ANU 2011 Semester 1 Chatter Thread Thank you for livening up this thread! Reasons for me were a mix of: reasonable distance (I'd have to go at least to Sydney anyway), good environment (it's not Sydney), prestige and academic excellence (particularly in politics). 'Looked' being past...

Re: ANU 2011 Semester 1 Chatter Thread Go walk around Civic, you'll need to know it! It's not far to the Civic Library Driver Licence Service to pick up a proof of age, and IIRC they're only $5. NSW ID is of course valid. I'm still unpacking my stuff tonight - 26kg taken with me on the plane...

NBN costs 24 times that of South Korea's with one tenth of the speed

"However, the EIU report does not mention NBN Co's announcement last year that its network will also be capable of the same speeds as South Korea's network. Shortly before the federal election, chief executive Mike Quigley announced the fibre network would be built to carry speeds of 1 gigabit...

Air force & Uni at the same time?

Air Force is probably different, but in the Army you can enlist in a University Regiment (e.g. SUR, UNSWR or one of their Companies). It's probably more difficult with the RAAF though.

    Doing HSC by distance interstate?

There's no rule against it - there are Australian international schools that run the HSC all over the world. You could probably do it through OTEN (http://www.oten.edu.au/oten/core/showpage.htm?pg=siindex&cofferid=289676). That said, DE sucks if you're not all that motivated, and you'll...
