i'm personally against the aboriginal flag being put in purely cause it replacing the union jack would fuck up the colour scheme.

it has to be blue as well: true blue Aussie.

i think australians might find it hard to adopt a new flag, a simple/good solution i think would be to adopt the Aboriginal flag as having equal status as the current flag. i.e. a "second" official flag, flown atop govt buildings etc (which is already done in many places)

edit
tho this one is a pretty sexy flag
That's a great idea! We should also adopt the flags of the 150+ other ethnic groups and fly them with equal status.

The current flag represents the dominant values of our society as being based on those of Britain, if it is to change it should have any partisan symbols removed so that it implicitly stands for the huge range of cultures contained within our shores.

yes! the rainbow would accurately signify any race except... for that fact that not all of us are gay.

You were just seduced by the fluttering wind.
I think that most of the previous winners are acceptable actually.

Ummmm... No.

It doesn't work for you. It doesn't really work for anyone, but it especially doesn't work for you.

The aboriginal flag does have equal status to the real Australian flag. Thanks to the wonderfull Mr Keating.

Oh, and http://members.optusnet.com.au/~brendan.jones/flags/images/aus-1.jpg has aboriginal colours (i was for that flag in 2003.. Untill i found this out).

Oh yes i like that one. Retains the Federation star and southern cross......while acknowledging the lands first inhabitants. Nice.

That one's not that bad, though it feels like it has a bit too much going on

I don't really mind leaving our flag unchanged, but if we did change it I would like it to be timeless - some of those flag designs look modern and flashy but in 20 years time it might look a bit dodgy. Though some of the "Qantas" flags are alrite, the whole kangaroo thing... doesn't go down well with me either

Yeah, some would age very quickly - but we could change it again - and again and again. We'll probably have a re-mix of Waltzing Matilda as the anthem before we change the damned flag though.

As long as there is a dance version around of it.

I'm sure that there are plenty of ethnic groups feel discriminated against and persecuted, how is acknowledging our injustice towards them any different to acknowledging what society has done to the indigenous?

It's becoming clearer that reconciliation needs to preceed a new flag.

Just something plain incorporating the Federation star and the southern cross would work best imo.
