Its not really hard if you want to apply yourself, additionally depending on the modules you do it may or may not be fun.

Adv english and Ext 1 English are quite different in content and for what you're expected to do.

Adv. focuses more on analysing particular text types to extract meaning, composing text types to create meaning etc.

Ext. looks more at the meaning behind the meanings in texts, for example the context of the author, the social / cultural / political paradigms which the text espouses etc. You're not just analysing textual features. It's good if you enjoy a good dose of philosophy with your English. :)

Year 11? Do ext 1. Decide if you want to keep it or not in year 12. Good stuff.

If you're considering this for Yr11 study, then I say do Ext1 English. It gives you a taste of what you might expect, and if you find that you enjoy it then it still gives you a chance to pick up Ext2 in Yr12 - or drop Ext1 all together, if it didn't suit you.

Personally, I enjoyed Ext1 immensely. I would recommend it if you don't find independant research and developing your own opinion daunting. :)

Heheh, it's like saying English is 'easier' than Maths. IMHO, Eng Adv has general differences to Ext1 and you should choose something which complements your skill set and interests. :)

of course ext1 would be easier than advanced, advanced is 2 units, ext1 is only 1 unit, hence half the amount of classes, the workload might increase, but i doubt too catch up too 2 units?

Just give it a try, if you like english, you'll enjoy Extension 1. If you don't like it. You can always drop it ;)

But you're in general maths? Wouldnt it be a big leap for you?

BTW...english not maths

Definatley go for EXT.1 eng, since its not that much different from adv.

English extension isn't difficult like maths extension or anything. Advance english wouldn't be much different to standard english.

Standard English and Advanced English are VERY DIFFERENT in terms of modules, level of difficulty, texts etc!

However, English Extension should only be recommended to those who enjoy English and its exploration of texts.

From what I heard, the level of difficulty isn't very different. I know the texts are different, but apparently, not so much the difficulty. But someone was mentioning they mark standard harder than advance.
