people are crying racism here, but the fact is that cronulla has little problems except for the summer (essentially between nov - the middle of january) when it becomes like an add on of the western suburbs.

between these times you will also find that locals dont bother going to north or south cronulla beaches (its funny that they take over the dangerous and the crap beach) because we are abused, have things stolen and told to get off the beach because it isn't ours.

i know the two boys who were bashed, and also happened to be standing outside the surf club when the incident occured on sunday. it was disguisting.. you would think that you would be safe when volunteering to watch the surf, but these people just don't accept that.

the fact is they are not locals (not saying that they shouldn't be able to visit the beach, but they shouldn't bring violence with them) and they are in fact of middle eastern appearance. now i don't consider myself to be racist but it annoys the hell out of me that those of us who live here and put lots into the community are forced to put up with such shit and change our lives during the summer so that we are safe.

I wholeheartedly agree; it very much disgusts me. Upon my limited understanding of the facts, the thugs responsible deserve to be prosecuted and punished to the full extent of the law.

Though we have our occasional incidents, it makes me very thankful for living where I do.

Brawl erupts on beach

December 07, 2005

A BRAWL erupted at North Cronulla beach today when a gang of youths turned on a media crew with one man being arrested.

Police said a fight between two people started the trouble about 4.30pm (AEDT) during which one person received minor injuries.

Up to ten people then turned on a media crew, damaging their equipment, a police spokesman said.

"Police responded immediately to the reported unrest and one man was arrested for malicious damage and taken to Miranda police station for questioning," he said.

"A search is currently under way for other persons who may be able to assist with enquiries."

A spokesman for Surf Life Saving Sydney said no lifesavers had been involved in today's brawl.

The incident follows the arrest this morning of a teenager, who was later charged over the assault on two lifeguards last weekend at the same southern Sydney beach.

The lifeguards were taken to Sutherland Hospital with lacerations and bruises caused by several blows to their heads.

Surf lifesavers at Cronulla have said that attack was carried out by a gang of youths who regularly visit Cronulla to harass locals and beachgoers.

Its not clear with the other today if the brawl was between people of middle eastern descent, who knows? They are pussyfooting around being careful not to play the race card, when it should be common sense that not everyone in the same race behaves in this way, only that it may be (unfortunately) typical.

Cronulla used to be a good place to visit 5 years ago before all the clubs and pubs arrived, now its just a crap place.

Well on ten new apparently (which i bet its all bullshit) that a sms is going around the place saying its time to take back the shire and that some biker club has joined lol i think its sad on both parts, don't both of them got something better to do. besides any other person who isn't Anglo + isnt involved in this crap wont feel safe there anymore.

I remember the cronulla riots on new years (2005), wouldn't that give a clue to everyone the place has become unstable because it did from me and i haven't returned back then.

^ the 'riots' were on australia day this year, and i really wouldnt call them riots. all it was was a gathering of about 2500 drunk local teenagers that has occured at dunningham park for as long as i can remember, yet the police failed to show up until it was completely out of hand and their only option was to form a riot line to get rid of everyone (but like well bought up kids we all disappeared fairly quickly).

there is really very minimal violence that occurs in cronulla (aside from fights on fri/sat nights outside pubs and clubs, but they happen everywhere). the fact is that during summer it becomes very violent on occassions due to, dare i say it, people visiting the shire.

yeah that is true. the only reason to go to north is to surf the alley.. and luckily none of them surf so its safe - or if they do they need to be pulled out by the lifesavers because they can't handle the pull, which is kind of ironic really.

The bloke who was arrested last Sunday was released on bail, with the proviso that he doesn't go to the beach, or near his victims. He'll go in front of Sutherland Court in mid-January.

"They were still looking for the rest of the men last night and said they had not ruled out a link between yesterday's violence and Sunday's attack." hmm, I wonder..

To stop or rather reduce crime in Australia I believe immigration from middle eastern and african countries such as Sudan should be reduced/revised. The problem with Australia's immigration policies is that they allow any homeless refo to come to Australia. Consequently the majority of migrants are poor, illiterate and cause nothing but trouble in Australia. At least there should be proper screening of migrants from Africa and the middle east. I mean who knows who we could be letting into Australia i.e. psychos who participated in genocide in Africa.
Australia will soon become the dumping ground for the world's useless and unwanted people that are unproductive and hence increase the crime rate.
Asians on the other hand are as a rule not violent, quiet and hardworking citizens of this land. Sure some are drugo's in cabra but Asians as a whole commit the least crime (especially violent crime). My solution is maintain asian immigration whilst reducing/revising African and Middle Eastern immigration.

the reason they are letting the sudaneese people in is because in africa everyone has to be muslims, and because they have chose to be a christian they get murdered. i have sudaneese in my grade and there is two brothers and an uncle all 3 years differecnce in age, but because of their unstable lifestyle in africa are at different learning stages. all their parents and most relitives have been murdered,
and one im pretty good friends with said in your year book "i want to be a teacher and help kids because i dont want people to grow up how i did, i want to help people get a better life".

now why should we deport them? to be murdered?? these people are true refugees and need our help!

Sudanese people I know are very kind and have been properly and warmly welcomed into Australia and there is almost no bad blood between them and Aussies. On the other hand, there are problems between them and the Muslims (not just Lebanese) as they have had bad experience in their homeland with people forcing their religion on them.

On the other hand, i believe with the Lebanese the government turned their back on them when most of them arrived in the 1970's with the Civil War as well as the culture shock which was a very Anglo-Saxon and Christian society they had been brought into and therefore had nothing in common. In countries in Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico) the Arab population is very well integrated and not much prejudice is brought by. On the other hand Lebanon is one of the "recovering" rich countries in the Middle East and a slow but steady rate of re-emigration from Australia is occuring.

Now with the Shire residents efforts at reclaiming the Beach i think there may not be a very bright future for the beach...
