What was the cathode wasnt it the platinum? and the hydrogen was reduced?



You know the isotopes question, remeber how it said, name the possible isotopes ( notice the plural), does that mean, if I named both the isotopes with the 14 day half life I can still get the 2 marks?

I thought the cathode was SO^2-₄ + 4H⁺ as there was a Sulfuric acid solution and Hydrogen was being blown in.

I think the anode was Copper.

Wasn't the cathode just hydrogen gas as the platinum acted as a surface for it? And dilute sulfuric acid was used as the electrolyte in it.

i thought chem was alright for the first time in my life, im hoping for 75%
didnt get up to the solvay question in industrial chem option so there goes 4 marks
i mind blanked for the test for measuring ozone levels in the atmosphere !

Yeah. I don't think it was Sulfate+Hydrogen. But we shall see when results come out. Now I just need to focus on Maths and Phys

i got 2.4% for the sulfate concentration one

and for the whole shipwrecks section i just wrote the most sensible load of crap i could think of.

I missed the sulfate question, ran out of time but I was so confused anyway.
All my friends unanimously said they got 69-71% or something.

It's meant to be high for inaccuracy, which is what the second part deals with.

Perhaps but it's better than becoming depressed about your Chem mark and then not studying for the rest of your trials (hence, failing them).

To be honest it was a fair exam not as tricky as previous CSSA trials in my opinion
With the half life/radiation question it did say isotope(s) so i picked two with the 14 day half life. I don't remember the question but can't alpha penetrate through several cm of paper?

Some of the wording screwed me over so I'm bound to lose marks here and there haha. Like the shipwrecks part a (ii) "why would zinc's passivating layer be UNsuitable for protecting ship's hulls" I thought it was a typo lol and it was in conjunction with cathodic protection but I answered it in the context of galvanising...fail it was so simple..

calculations and problem solving stuff no tricks but was the chemical additives/membrane filters a DESCRIBE or a DISCUSS question? I answered it as if it was describe so I didn't provide pros and cons for either...that's 3 marks gone?! :/

i have to say my brothers and sisters in Chemistry,

that catholic trial exam was the easiest exam i have done all year,

either you don't study enough, which is not much, you dont pay attention in class, you dont ask questions, or they set the in school exams easy which then you will have trouble when it comes to the big ones.

study hard, we are nearly there!

HUH? Really? But wasn't it what element underwent beta decay to get thorium? so if thorium was the final product then shouldn't the original element be one less since, as you say, beta decay does go up? I'm confuzzled
