My teacher said don't use physics formulas.

He taught us some other formula that contains sin theta, cos theta... etc etc

he first got a = -g then integrated it to get velocity and displacement

same for the x plane. acceleration on x = 0, then integrated it.

Is this way more suitable for 3u? I know I can't use physics formula because if I do, my teacher will kill me... but just asking if you guys do.

The questions aren't aimed at those formulas. I highly doubt they'll give you the required information to work out 3u projectiles with the physics formulas. I think it would work the other way around though (3u projectile formulas for physics projectiles.)

So my teacher is teaching the correct way.

Dang. Wished I used physics formula for 3u.

Can I use 3u projectile formulas for physics?

Safest to use the methods that are outline in the syllabus for each subject.

3u syllabus uses the method of integrating each formulas ? to get velocity and displacement ?

It's a shame that you learnt the physics way first. From my experience 3U maths will work for physics, but the physics formulas will not always be enough for 3U maths.

I'll just use 3U projectile formulas for math and phy formulas for phy

I don't want to get owned by using 3U formulas for phy and getting a 0 for the question. The syllabus for physics does state that the formulas has to be used :)

No, they will give you no marks in the HSC for using physics fomulae, considering it is not part of the syllabus and because I too ask about this haha, but my teacher was quick to shut it down (past HSC marker)

my teacher was also a past HSC marker.

I'll write exactly what he said: "Guys, if you use physics formula in projectile motions, I will kill you" :p. My teacher is such a funny guy haha

Don't use the physics ones. They're shit.

3unit works best, that way you can do the really tricky ones(not that there are any in physics).

Only use the physics ones in physics, if you will get marked down for not using them.

yeah once again, if you use physics formula without deriving you won't get any marks at all.

I was lucky in that I was doing Yr 11 3U while i was in Yr 10, and so i learnt the 3U method for doing projectiles before learning the physics method.. I think that the 3U method is much safer (each question is done the same) and foolproof.. I also used the 3U method for physics projectiles (It's the same formulas just different notation) and the teacher was fine with it.. better to check first, but i say 3U method for both
