Also excellent: http://www.scottaaronson.com/writings/selfdelusion.html

It raises some rather interesting sociological/psychological questions, while leaving you a dry, soulless husk at the end, much like 1984. I imagine Schroedinger and NTB would appreciate it.

On the other hand, a more mathematical mindfuck is: http://209.85.175.104/search?q=cache:Q74ccZdRoiEJ:www.c3.lanl.gov/mega-math/workbk/infinity/inhotel.html
Scott Aaronson's version: http://www.scottaaronson.com/writings/pancake.html

Funny thing, i thought u didnt, my mistake. The point i would like to get at to other people is that reliigon is man made, people have to search within themselves and look at what is missing. I too have a relationship with God, and i have accepted him. lol i think we're on the same page now.

No, you're not, because 3unitz is trolling you - he's an atheist.

Skeptical Romanticism is such a hard line to walk, but I feel it is doable. On the other hand, I can't say as much for mysticism. I loved this little analytic moment:

Six months before I was to become bat mitzvah, I learned something puzzling in Hebrew school. It seemed that the Ten Commandments, contrary to popular belief, weren't handed down on stone tablets with rounded tops; instead, the tablets were rectangular and sapphire, with the writing carved all the way through. Checking and rechecking the Hebrew alphabet above the blackboard, I hesitantly raised my hand. "But what about mem and samech?" I asked. "Those letters are shaped like an 'O'—I mean, topologically."

Indeed. It pulls in so many different aspects of philosophy, metaphysics, psychology, theology and sociology so seamlessly. I really love that page. I first read at 15 and it was mind-blowing at the time, because it covered pretty much all the issues I was feeling at the time (15 was about the time I was having my little existential crisis).

I seem to remember you tossing the 'pancake at the bottom' my way some time ago. The concept of infinity and associated paradoxes = fun.

a) that's part of the idea what with the juxtaposition of change w.r.t. the end and all
b) it's written by a guy - it's not real.

Fucking stop being so "oh noes! words bad" for a second. I mean it's written by a fucking mathematics Ph.D while maintaining a nice word flow and poignancy. I mean, how much further from arty farty can I give you?
