well... in chem they havent really learnt anything new since last year axcept titration, but in software its pretty much the same too, just a bit more advanced.

it all depends on if your software teacher is a good teacher (which most arnt) and if you have the drive to learn it on your own with the aid of a good text book (sam davis). If its going to help you in uni, i suggest you do it. I personally love software even tho my classes are crap cos its my fun subject. Keeps me sane, and i love programming cos is so satisfying so...

it all comes down to you and how you feel about the subjects and how its gonna affect your future. Hope this helps lol. theres no yes/no answer from me.
thanks for the heads up miche11e. I guess I'm just gonna await the results from the Prelim Yearlies. :D

yeh im second too, but the girl whos coming first deserves it. She may not do much in class, but she really studies for it, so im ok with that.

But for one of our assessment tasks, we had to pick to make a program that
1. converted numbers from binary to decimal and vice versa
2. Was a english/other language word converter (only needed about 5 words)
3. a program that calculated area for a few shapes

so i chose the binary decimal one and everyone else picked the other ones, and everyones worked and stuff, but i ended up with 5th/6 because mine wasnt as pretty and it didn't have excessive documentation. For every programming assessment task we have to keep a progress diary and stuff for some reason. Anyway, All the other girls just copied their programs pretty much straight out of the book cos we'd done stuff similar before, but i did mine from scratch and i felt kinda cheated cos id put way more work into mine than them... it allways seems to be that way... except for my major :D

anyway, enuf venting lol
lol
Your second too. Out of how many students? There's only 10 of us in my class.....

Was that for your major project in year 11? I think that seems a bit unfair though, since you guys have pretty much gone over that stuff and then they just copy it out.....
But I guess you chose the better option by choosing something different. :)

Good luck studying for this subject. :D

theres 6 of us in my class

naw - for our major project in yr 11 we had to make and educational game so i made a maths game where you could pick to do addition, subtraction, multiplication or division or a mix of them and there were 8 levels and each level the time you had got shorter... it was quite nifty if i do say so myself, but the code was a bit long cos i should have used more arrays than i did.

what was ur yr 11 major on?
good luck to you too :D

I enjoyed SDD! I thought it was loads of fun, I thought the theory was interesting (apart from the social and ethical issues. SO boring.) ... then again, it was just me the year 10 and two year 12s in the class, so we were messing about most of the time- sometimes the teacher didn't even show up. Good times. Hehe.
Still got a band 6 for it though ;)

Wow, that's such a small class. lol
Oh I see, that seems pretty cool. I hate it when there's too much coding, I get all confused. hehehe

My Year 11 major was a Memory Game. It was pretty good, I tried to add some cool stuff to it to make it more interesting.

Thanks! :)

just a general thought:

SOFTWARE DESIGN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

at our subject expo in year 10, we were shown a program, and told we would be making programs like this. it was a decent one too. so i picked the class.

in the 2 years of doing this class, i have not learnt a thing. i can make programs, but that's because i learnt visual basic BEFORE i took software design. i mucked around with it and learnt the functions.

i think the subject has too much theory. we learn all the stuff behind making a program, like documentation and planning etc, but have we put it to practice by making a program? NO!

we have made like 2 simple programs in the whole course, and in one of those, we had to be given the code to put in because after a year and a half, still no-one knew how to use visual basic!

our teacher says if we revise our notes and stuff, we'd be able to use visual basic fine. thats bulls**t. we need to learn how to use it in the first place, to have notes to read over.

apparently, the way to learn all the coding for it is to read notes. we've tried that and it doesnt work. instead, i got visual basic and mucked around with the functions. whenever i was stuck, i looked at the help guide or somewhere on the net for the solution.

check out a program i have made in visual basic:

<-> - MSN2CSV

i developed it by doing what i just mentioned above, so i have not used anything i learnt from doing SDD to make it. not that i've learnt much from SDD anyway.

so overall, this course really frustrates me. anyone considering doing this course probably shouldnt. the name is too misleading.

SDD SUCKS!!!!!!!

A personal view is that YOU suck due to your extreme lack of Vocabulary

im in yr 11 and doin SDD i think its great.
i guess it depends on ur teacher and/or school. My teacher has been a programmer for years and he is a great teacher.

really depends on your class.

i do it by distance ed. cause my school does not offer it, and ive done about 80% practical and 20% theory.

i love it, only bad thing is that im limited to VB6, which is a pain since i already know C++/C#

Yeah, don't worry buddy. . . If you think you've got SDD on the low road, our teacher let's us play games and bludge bludge bludge *rinse and repeat*.

Before we had a good teacher, but now it's not so tight with our new one. I feel like I'm going to fail. . . But awell.

SDD was awesome at high school.

We use to play Quake 3, CS and Battlefield all day and watch porn (with our female teacher).

Memories :)
