a 'first-rate' selective skool? i.e james ruse, north syd,
those skools dont allow any negative scaling subjects to run

ouch.. St George Girls High..

i didn't thinik we were that shabby - to be called 'second-rate'

Scaled the same yes. Where Standard English is unfair is that is marked with the same criteria as Advanced English, therefore, virtually blocking out Standard students from the top 2 bands. The girl who got 90 did so because she did with standard texts in the exam what advanced students were doing with their texts. Its all very unfair, but thats the system.

according to SAM english ad scales you down!
oh wells as long as you do well in it then not much impact will be given!

i'm going to be bias and tell you to choose advance english

o no! and im seriously considering standard for 2005.
but in doing advanced i think im overestimating myself, which is deadly

I was in standard two years ago, and vowed l would never do advanced again.

I am in advanced this year and was last year (with encouragement from my teachers) and l finished 2nd in the class.

I did advanced in yr 11 and then dropped down to standard in yr 12. I don't recommend doing it cause even though they are both english courses, i found it somewhat difficult to adjust to the work which was done in standard.

I'm doing advanced because my school doesn't offer standard, and I'm going to go badly because I don't agree with / don't fully understand the ideas that are put forth in the course - I know I'm going to have to be hypocritical to get a good mark and I don't like that.
