A seat on an aeroplane is not a human right.
Right to travel?

If the assumption is that people get fat purely through poor self-discipline, then it's not discrimination. But surely there are valid external factors impacting weight? Marketing, cost, low physical activity in modern consumption society... err.

No. They can pay for the extra seat if they need it, just like everybody else.
Just because they were born with a defect - they have to pay more?
Do you undersatnd what discrimination means?
Because that is exactly what your post expressed.

Marketing, cost, low physical activity in a modern consumption society are not external factors that force people to become obese.

You can argue that they are mitigating factors, but
a. Everybody knows that if you eat shit and don't exercise, you become fat
b. Nobody can argue that they didn't realise sitting on their arse all day and eating Cheetos was gunna make them fat
c. Nobody can say it's cheaper to buy take out foot/shit every day, instead of going to a farmers market and cooking your own stuff
d. Nobody can say that they didnt realise getting fat would lead to health problems

You and I are both exposed to the same marketing and we both live in the same society. Why aren't you or I obese? Why isnt the other 50% of Australians obese?

And to be perfectly honest, I don't give a shit if adults become fat. It's when adults allow their children to become obese. That's when I get

It's not the same concept you tard.

There is a difference between being slightly heavier than the average person, but still fitting in a normal seat, compared with somebody who is so fat they require 2 seats. One of them isn't normal.

Soon it'll be everything else and the fattie corporation will be like 'I don't need to lose weight, society will just make bigger door frames loal'
This is just a random, interesting, good, old fashioned debate which I am enjoying and it's making me think. But you had to get all defensive and take it personally.
Why did you need to call me a name when I wasn't rude to you at all?

Your take on 'normal' is an opinion not a fact. My point was that when you take this principle and apply it to an example that is less extreme - you can see it is silly. Where do you draw the line? 110kg?

Because somebody was born half retarded and only has the capacity to earn $25,000 a year and can never afford air travel, does that mean they should get subsidized or free air travel?

It's not discrimination you clown. Discrimination would be saying 'Um, no retards on the plane coz they dribble'. Asking people to foot the bill because of their added demands is not discrimination.

Flying is a business. It's means of travel yes, but it's not a universal means of travel that just because it exists, is and should be accessible to everybody. It's like saying 'it's not fair I have to go in coach while rich people get first class, I'm a human therefore I should be able to sit in first class for the cost of a coach ticket'

Fuck off.

I called you a tard.

This is not me taking anything you say personally. Why would I? The best you've come up with is 'You should pay more if you weigh more than your friend! lolz'

We've already established that it is not the same thing.

It should be whatever the airline calculates as being feasible to carry, including baggage.

The real issue is the interference by the courts. If airlines want to subsidize fatties that's fine. But they should not be forced to.
Id imagine that theyd say that they were enforcing anti-discrim laws, or interpreting a shift in values re human rights. Not sure what their constitution looks like, but probably has a bill of rights

I'd say most airlines would as a gesture of goodwill transport wheelchairs anyway.

This is what you said:
Discrimination is making some exception because of one of these factors that is beyond their control.
So-
Discrimination is:
making some exception (they have to pay extra) because of one of these factors that is beyond their control (wheelchair because they have cerebral palsy or something).
So you are saying this isn't discrimination?
But that is your definition...

Stop it with this human rights nonsense.

Flying is not a human right. If it were, we'd be given Starvin Marvin subsidised flights all the time, just so he can go back to ethiopia and tell his friends that click click, click click click.

If you are too big to fit in plane seats, they shouldn't be forced to accommodate you at a loss to them.

But surely as a society we're much fatter than we were at the turn of last century, therefore it's maybe fair that things should change to accomodate that? I mean, I know lots of hardworking fat people who, idk, have a lot of takeaway because they work long hours. It takes a lot of time and energy to have the lean and lucious ripe young bodies you and I enjoy. I'd argue that there's a certain economic reality to obesity

This is what you said:

So-
Discrimination is:
making some exception (they have to pay extra) because of one of these factors that is beyond their control (wheelchair because they have cerebral palsy or something).
So you are saying this isn't discrimination?
But that is your definition...

You may choose to have your mobility aid delivered to you at the gate lounge upon arrival or you may collect it from the baggage collection area.

What about pregnant women in the workforce? Paid maternity leave? Totally unfair comparison, but um... I cant back that up. What it rests on are the causes of obesity. Just like with the homosexuals - for a long time they were denied equality because it was assumed that their sexuality was a choice - an unnecessary self-indulgence cf gender or race
My prayer is that one day we will look back on all this "fattie" teasing and say, through full mouths, 'What was all that about?'

I'm not a massive supporter of paid maternity leave.

If you can't afford to leave work for long enough to have a kid, don't have a kid.
