New students - please try to avoid 9am tutorials - you will be really tired if you are travelling from UNSW. I had this experience and i was pretty tired, therefore affecting my test marks.

Okay and some advice with regards to enrolment: as soon as you get your offer, do the enrolment process asap. Make your timetable asap otherwise all the good spots go away. First come first served, it is.

Also, make sure you have a Tax File Number (I had that problem last year) otherwise you'll have to state "pay upfront". And that process is before your timetabling, so don't leave that behind. If you don't have a TFN then go get one asap.

Those are what I discussed with spiral a few hours ago :p
Thanks for the advice!!

and if you do commerce put your tutorials on a thursday/wednesday afternoon if you can. people were posting the exact questions word for word for some of the in class quizzes in finance and accounting.

And one big mistake students make: You do not have to arrive at uni at 9am. It is not school anymore. As long as you are on time for tutorials. Plus you do not have to go to lectures(unless they mark the roll).

This. Unfortunately I have 3 9am starts (can't really do anything about it, languages fuck the timetable up because they get put on the worst timeslots)

Saw circles get a mention here..
Circles
Octangles

I recommend doing your timetables yourselves though.
I agree with the above. Seriously, it is not that hard to make timetables yourself. Also, you can customize it even more than rectangles or circles could do so.

Also thank you for digging the above site, I really needed it. I was going to ask the creator to send the link to me to post here but you've done it already so thanks once again :)

I think Class Utilisation updates more frequently, just from observation: https://my.unsw.edu.au/classutil/
I agree with this too. Also guys, use class utilization because it even shows potential tutorials that would be opened. :)

What are usually the earliest times for commerce courses at UNSW? Anyone have an idea? 9am or earlier perhaps?
9am for a lot of the tutes. In first year tutes, they often all start at 9am everyday (unless if there is a lecture on that time).

So as soon as I get an offer, I enrol straight away and should be able to construct my own timetable with their given availabilities? Do they do early offers in January for every course (e.g. Med Science) or only for some?
Yes. Also, I would recommend fiddling with the timetable before you get your offer just to know what classes you can directly enrol into.

Yup. For those doing ECON1101, put your tutes on friday and try to scab questions off people who do their quizzes on monday. There are two quizzes, which should be pretty easy though (but harsh in marking) :)

For those doing ACCT1501 next sem, as above, put it on friday or thursday because your midsem exam is in your tutorial. Apparently you'll also have to do other in-class quizzes, so hence why.

Same reasoning for FINS1613, but for ACTL1101 (directed at potential actuarial students) don't bother because Brian Chu (lecturer) puts his midsem on the same day for everyone.

Not quite, you'll pretty much need to find this on your own, but they'll kinda guide you through it. We're here to try and help you ppls so that you don't make the mistakes that a lot of ppl, including me, have done through the past year or so.

i didn't even know we could make our own timetables... seems like i would have really been screwed if i did not come past this. Anyway, is that stuff required by the uni or just for your own personal use?

Both, they take your name down in tutorials for attendance (attendance is compulsory in tutorials)

Thank you so much!
no worries :)

Oh also, say to get into a course you need 95, but one person got 89. Then, another person got 95. But then the one who got 89, got bonus points, maybe 7, so their atar is now 96 because of bonus points.

who gets offered into the course?

Depending on the number of places available. If there are at least two places, then both of them get in.

But if there was only one spot left, then the one who originally had the 89 will be offered as opposed to the one who got 95.

But how is that fair? I'm just worried someone will get in the course i want and they got lower than me with bonus points you know? and I actually passed the cut off (I know it can change too, but just as an example)

It isn't fair tbh. But then again you have to deal with it, not much you can do about it. After all, its highest ATAR first, lowest ATAR last (on selection panel, taking into account HSC plus, EAS and EAP).

Also to add to the OP, congratulations on getting a good enough ATAR to get into your desired UNSW course!

You've chosen a good university.

Can't wait to get enrolled!

Is it best to have the tutes before lectures, since they address the previous weeks content?

Are you referring to me? If so, thank you. If not, congratulations to the other person. ^_^
