On the rawmarks website, it does not say the rank of the student who got a mark, only the raw and scaled mark. If your not ranked first, how accurate is it?
I'm pretty sure it's the raw mark they got on the hsc exam not considering internals, and the HSC mark that they put there is the exam mark they got from NESA. So the marks on there don't actually count internals its only the external HSC component.
Demons is correct. Additionally, the HSC exam marks available on rawmarks.info are aligned, not scaled. Alignment is a process that NESA performs that modifies raw marks according to band descriptors of a particular HSC subject. The marks that you receive as part of your HSC results are aligned, and alignment does not affect your ATAR. On the other hand, scaling is the process performed by UAC as part of calculating a student's ATAR. It does not consider aligned marks. Raw HSC exam marks can be accessed by requesting them from NESA at a fee, as have the students who uploaded their raw HSC exam marks to rawmarks.info. However, there is no way to access scaled HSC marks. Contrary to NESA, UAC does not offer a service allowing students to access their scaled HSC marks.
A state rank is determined by the overall HSC mark. While being ranked first internally is typically needed for a state rank alongside favourable HSC exam performance, if you perform well enough in the subject's HSC exam, such that your overall HSC mark ends up being higher than the student ranked first, and the overall HSC mark itself is high enough (for example, 97+/100), you can still potentially place among the top achievers for the subject.
